Role Overview
This is a full-time, on-site position based in the Morogoro Region, Tanzania. The Community Development Officer will engage with local communities to pinpoint needs, establish project priorities, and support the creation and execution of community-driven initiatives. Key daily tasks involve conducting fieldwork, arranging community gatherings, leading participatory planning sessions, and assisting community groups in securing necessary resources and services. The role requires coordination with various municipal departments, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure that interventions align with municipal strategies and national policies. Additionally, the officer will be responsible for generating reports, documenting successful practices, and contributing to the oversight and assessment of community programs.
Qualifications and Skills
The ideal candidate will possess strong capabilities in community development and engagement, with demonstrated experience working directly with diverse community groups. Excellent communication abilities are essential for facilitating meetings, conveying information effectively, and establishing rapport with stakeholders. Proven experience in training and capacity building, particularly in empowering community members and local leaders, is highly valued. The role demands the ability to design, implement, and monitor community projects, supported by fundamental project management and reporting skills. A Bachelor's degree in Community Development, Sociology, Social Work, Development Studies, or a closely related field is required. Familiarity with Tanzanian local governance structures, development policies, and community participation methodologies is considered an advantage. Strong interpersonal skills, cultural awareness, and a dedication to non-discriminatory, inclusive practices are crucial. The ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team, coupled with robust organizational and time management skills, is also necessary.
