Job description
Role overview
This paid internship sits within IPPF’s Commercial Sustainability team, a compact and ambitious group focused on helping Member Associations in Africa, Asia, and Latin America move toward long-term financial independence. The placement is based at IPPF’s London headquarters for two days each week, with some flexibility to work from home on a partial basis. The internship is expected to begin in July, subject to availability.
Purpose of the internship
During the placement, you will support three key areas: improving the team’s data and analytics setup, strengthening the evidence base that communicates commercial sustainability in practice, and providing operational and administrative help that keeps day-to-day work on track. You will work closely with the team manager and gain direct insight into how a global organisation uses data to inform decisions.
This opportunity is a strong fit for someone interested in global health, international development, or data and analytics, and who wants practical experience across project work, research, and support tasks. Applicants may come with related academic experience or a clear interest in these fields.
What you will learn
- Practical exposure to real-world data in an international development setting
- Insight into how mission-led and commercial organisations function
- Experience of how a global health organisation uses dashboards, data systems, and evidence to guide strategic choices
- Direct guidance from the Financial Business Partner and wider Commercial Sustainability team
- A tangible piece of work such as a case study, analysis, or data contribution that can be used as evidence of your experience
Data and analytics work
- Assist with testing and quality assurance for the team’s Power BI dashboard ahead of launch by checking outputs, identifying inconsistencies, and recording what performs well
- Clean, structure, and validate data received from Member Associations while building an understanding of how the submission pipeline works
- Support research into how AI and automation tools could improve data workflows, and document the findings in a clear and practical way
- Help create and format visual summaries and data outputs for internal reporting
Evidence and learning
- Research how peer global health organisations track and report commercial sustainability, and turn the findings into a concise team briefing
- Contribute to case study development that explains Member Association performance through accessible narrative, not just numbers
- Gather and organise evidence from across the Member Association portfolio for donor reporting, internal communications, and learning materials
- Produce a short deliverable such as a briefing note, slide deck, or summary on a research question agreed at the start of the placement
Team operations and administration
- Keep trackers, SharePoint folders, and shared documents up to date so information remains well organised and easy to retrieve
- Support the coordination of Member Association submission cycles by sending reminders, recording responses, and following up where necessary
- Prepare materials for internal meetings, including agendas, notes, and action tracking after meetings
- Carry out additional administrative tasks as needed during the internship
Essential profile
The team is looking for someone who is curious, well organised, and genuinely interested in both data and the organisation’s mission. You do not need to be a data scientist or a development specialist, but you should be comfortable using spreadsheets, willing to learn new tools, able to communicate clearly in writing, and ready to contribute to both operational and project-based work.
