Job description

About LegalVision

LegalVision is a modern commercial law firm designed for ambitious teams that prefer a different way of working. Using a fixed-fee legal membership model, the firm provides unlimited legal support to SMEs and internal legal teams.

Its work is supported by proprietary technology that helps deliver fast, high-quality legal services with predictable pricing for clients and strong career opportunities for employees. With a presence in New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom, LegalVision provides pathways for progression, exposure to varied work at scale, and the chance to join an innovative firm that has been recognised as a 5 Star Employer of Choice, a Top 25 Attraction Firm, and Law Firm of the Year.

The Opportunity

LegalVision is seeking applications from New Zealand-based lawyers to join its Australian Commercial practice focused on Consumer, Health and Tech, working remotely from New Zealand. In this position, you will support a broad range of businesses, including early-stage startups, established technology companies, healthcare providers, and other emerging leaders.

You will manage a varied client portfolio, handle complex commercial work, and supervise and coach junior lawyers. The role comes with real independence, direct client contact, and the opportunity to help shape your own practice while being part of a collaborative, high-performing team.

This is well suited to someone who is ambitious, commercially aware, and looking for more responsibility than a conventional senior associate role.

The New Zealand team operates fully remotely. The company also organises offsites and other events several times a year so the team can connect in person. For candidates based in Christchurch, access is available to a coworking space. The selected candidate will receive an allowance to help set up a comfortable home office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of client relationships by serving as the main contact for assigned clients, acting as a trusted adviser, and looking for ways to create added value and support business growth.
  • Advise clients across a wide range of sectors and legal issues, including technology, healthcare, SaaS, fintech, healthtech, NDIS, and other emerging industries; prepare, assess, and negotiate commercial and IT agreements; and provide guidance on intellectual property, licensing, partnership arrangements, regulatory compliance, privacy, and consumer law.
  • Work alongside the Practice Leader to guide, mentor, and train junior lawyers and graduates, strengthening their technical capability and commercial judgment while building your own leadership and people-management experience.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Must be admitted to practise in New Zealand, have at least 5 years of post-qualification experience, and currently hold or be prepared to obtain a New South Wales practising certificate.
  • Bring strong technical capability, with substantial experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements across different industries and transaction structures.
  • Have excellent relationship-building skills and the ability to earn trust with in-house legal teams and business stakeholders.
  • Be able to provide practical, solution-focused legal advice backed by strong commercial understanding.
  • Adapt quickly to new people, businesses, industries, and legal requirements, and adjust your approach accordingly.
  • Demonstrate leadership experience, including direct supervision or management of junior lawyers, and work well as a collaborative team member in a fast-moving environment.

Benefits

  • Work with a varied portfolio of clients and matters while building close, long-term client relationships.
  • Develop strong people management and supervision capabilities.
  • Enjoy flexibility and autonomy while being part of a supportive team.
  • Contribute meaningfully to the growth and direction of the firm.
  • Receive additional LV Leave days, along with paid birthday leave, volunteering leave, and parental leave.
  • Access an annual budget for external learning and development.
  • Work fully remotely from anywhere in New Zealand.

How to Apply

This opportunity is for an experienced commercial lawyer seeking a distinctive fully remote role. Applications are assessed as they come in and will close once the position is filled, so early submission is encouraged.
