Job description

Role overview

Philip Morris India is looking for a Cluster Manager for Gujarat to lead cluster growth, strengthen the sales organization, and execute commercial plans that deliver profitable volume growth, wider market reach, and stronger market share. The role also requires working closely with GPI to support volume coverage, expand product assortment, and ensure smooth roll-out of new launches. A key part of the job is to put the cluster strategy into action to improve volume and point-of-sale visibility, in coordination with trade marketing and marketing teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Run business development through GPI by conducting monthly reviews, quarterly business reviews with management, and analysing GPI KSI reports, Workozy data, and field reports to identify gaps and opportunities, then convert them into practical action plans.
  • Strengthen motivation and engagement across the PM India and GPI FSF teams by actively driving the Invincibles program and encouraging strong participation.
  • Spot growth pockets and high-impact visibility or investment opportunities using market segmentation and by building clusters that are frequently visited by LA smokers.
  • Maintain strict process discipline and compliance, work through reporting systems effectively, and periodically update existing processes so they remain relevant to market needs and workload.
  • Support Regional Managers in preparing commercial sales plans by developing cluster plans and aligning them with Trade Marketing, Commercial Business Planning, and FWP activities.
  • Advise Regional Managers on cluster sales targets related to market share, volume, availability, coverage, frequency, and visibility using detailed market intelligence.
  • Continuously study the cluster business environment, draw business insights, and help shape long-term strategy by identifying market drivers, issues, and growth opportunities.
  • Create cluster commercial plans that match regional priorities and prepare short-term responses for unexpected business challenges.
  • Take part in quarterly business reviews with the JV partner GPI and align on next-quarter plans and business support requirements.
  • Ensure approved plans are implemented on time by communicating clearly with all stakeholders and focusing on critical business drivers such as availability, stock weight, pricing, visibility, and execution quality.
  • Lead ASM/ASE teams by setting clear goals, roles, and operating structure so that sales volume and market share objectives are achieved.
  • Build a strong field sales capability for future growth by coaching team members, managing performance, and ensuring training and other resources are available to close capability gaps.
  • Help Regional Managers execute sales activities that drive volume growth and market share improvement for the cluster.
  • Manage internal coordination with commercial and other business functions, while also building and sustaining external relationships with key business partners.
  • Work with all relevant teams to support business goals and ensure full compliance with PM policies, sales force operating procedures, local and state/federal laws, and the international marketing code.

Experience required

The role calls for more than 7 years of overall experience in FMCG sales, with strong exposure to multiple channels such as retail, dealer, and modern trade. The ideal candidate should have a solid track record of leading, training, motivating, and managing a sales team.

Skills and attributes

This position requires strong analytical ability, verbal and numerical reasoning, gap analysis, budget handling, business planning, project management, influencing skills, advanced managerial capability, and familiarity with HR tools and talent review processes. The right person should be independent, confident, outgoing, self-driven, results-focused, entrepreneurial, committed to people development and service excellence, innovative, collaborative, and able to multitask well across levels and functions.
