This position is part of a multidisciplinary group led by Dr. Ajay Goel, Professor and Founding Chair of the Department of Molecular Diagnostics and Experimental Therapeutics. The group includes basic scientists, gastroenterologists, surgeons, oncologists, and bioinformaticians working on projects with large international consortia.

This role may have the possibility of becoming tenure-track if grant support is secured for a period of 3 to 5 years from a federal agency.

What You Will Do

  • Maintain protocol files and regulatory records for IRB, DSMB, and PRMC/CPRMC.
  • Prepare, process, and submit data and specimens according to study requirements with a focus on accuracy and safety.
  • Build and sustain professional relationships with patients and hospital personnel while protecting confidentiality.
  • Support patient recruitment, protocol-specific testing, evaluations, and other study-related tasks.
  • Carry out research work under close guidance, including lab activities in microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, and informatics.
  • Track and escalate protocol or data management concerns to the supervisor as needed.
  • Help maintain an orderly, well-organized work setting and continue professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a healthcare environment, ideally in research.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Research Focus

The research program centers on translational genomic and epigenomic studies of gastrointestinal cancers, including colorectal, pancreatic, gastric, esophageal, and hepatocellular cancers. The team is highly productive and publishes in leading journals such as Nature Cancer, Nature Communications, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Reviews Gastroenterology and Hepatology, New England Journal of Medicine, CA: A Journal for Clinicians, Gastroenterology, Cancer Cell, PNAS, JAMA Oncology, JNCI, Cancer Research, Clinical Cancer Research, and Annals of Surgery.
