Job description
Job Summary
The Education Authority (Northern Ireland) is seeking a Cleaning Services Cleaner to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking cleaning duties within designated areas of the premises as part of a team, reporting to the Cleaning Supervisor or another authorized individual. This is a full-time, onsite position based in Legahory, Northern Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive cleaning of all designated areas within the premises.
- Utilize appropriate equipment and methods for floor care, including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, buffing, and machine scrubbing.
- Clean and treat carpeted areas and mats to remove stains effectively.
- Maintain the cleanliness of toilet and shower facilities, including fixtures and fittings.
- Dust and clean ledges, walls, fixtures, fittings, and internal surfaces up to 3.35 meters.
- Polish furniture as required.
- Empty and clean internal litter bins and transport refuse to designated collection points.
General Conditions and Compliance
- All duties must be performed in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978, relevant legislation, COSHH Regulations, and Codes of Practice.
- Work will be carried out under standard working conditions inherent to the role.
- Employees may be required to cover for colleagues on sick leave according to Education Authority procedures.
- Absences must be reported promptly and relevant forms completed and signed by the Building Supervisor.
- Mandatory use of issued protective clothing and work wear is required during cleaning duties.
- Appropriate flat-soled, enclosed-toe footwear must be worn.
- Cleaning equipment must be used, cared for, and maintained safely, with any defects reported immediately.
- Completion of all necessary paperwork is required.
- Duties may extend to include those of the same grade, provided they are within the employee's competence.
Training and Development
- Employees are expected to accept training for higher-level roles as required by the authority. Payment for higher-level duties will only be made when those duties are actively being performed.
- Mandatory training includes induction and refresher courses to facilitate undertaking duties up to and including their own grade.

- This post involves working in educational institutions and is subject to the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007. An enhanced disclosure check will be required, the cost of which will be borne by the applicant.
