Job description
Organizational context
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world’s largest volunteer-based humanitarian network. It is formed by National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and, together with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), belongs to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Its overarching mission is to inspire, support, enable and promote humanitarian action by National Societies at all times. The organization works to address needs and improve living conditions for people in developing and transition countries, especially vulnerable communities before, during and after disasters, crises and health emergencies. IFRC is supported by a Secretariat headquartered in Geneva and operated through regional and country offices worldwide.
The Secretariat, led by the IFRC Secretary General, provides the Federation’s core capacity to serve, connect and represent National Societies. It supports governance mechanisms, sets norms and standards, provides guidance, ensures coherence and coordination, promotes accountability and performance, shares knowledge, strengthens collaboration across the Movement, and expands the Federation’s reach as an international organization. The Secretariat structure includes three main work groups: Partnerships, including Movement and Membership; Programmes and Operations; and Management. It also has five decentralized regional offices: Americas (Panama City), Africa (Nairobi), Asia-Pacific (Kuala Lumpur), Europe (Budapest), and Middle East and North Africa (Beirut).
As one of these regional offices, the Europe Regional Office supports 54 National Societies in strengthening their humanitarian and development work so they can remain trusted partners in their countries and operate in a sustainable and accountable way.
