Role overview
Sault Area Hospital is seeking a Housekeeping Cleaner to support the cleanliness and sanitation of hospital spaces. The role is based in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and involves working across a range of shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
Shift pattern
This position follows 8-hour shifts. Example shift times include 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm, and 11:00 pm to 7:00 am. Candidates must be available for all required shift times, including call-ins, and should consider this schedule carefully before applying. Availability across all shifts, 7 days a week, is required.
Key duties
- Clean walls, ceilings, lights, vents, and other surfaces throughout hospital areas, using a ladder when needed.
- Vacuum carpets and clean upholstered furniture.
- Carry out floor care tasks such as mopping, stripping, refinishing, buffing, and operating scrubbers, polishers, auto scrubbers, wet vacuums, and cleaning chemicals.
- Complete terminal cleaning in operating rooms, delivery rooms, and strict isolation rooms.
- Handle routine and discharge cleaning in patient areas, including removing linens and preparing beds or stretchers.
- Respond to spills and floods, and collect waste for disposal; support the Sanitary Collector when needed.
- Use housekeeping supplies and equipment safely and follow department procedures at all times.
- Be prepared for extended standing, walking, lifting, and climbing while using proper technique.
Qualifications and knowledge
A secondary school diploma or Project Search graduation is required. The role also calls for computer literacy and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

The position also requires a professional, respectful, reassuring manner when interacting with people in person and by phone, along with tact, courtesy, and alertness in public-facing situations.
