Role Overview
The Civil/Earthworks Inspector role is based in Dammam, Saudi Arabia and calls for a highly experienced professional who can safeguard quality, compliance, and technical integrity across civil engineering and earthworks activities. The position plays a key part in ensuring construction work meets approved designs, regulations, and project standards while maintaining strong working relationships with contractors, engineers, and project managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out detailed inspections of earthworks, site preparation, and civil works to confirm alignment with approved drawings, specifications, and Saudi regulations.
- Check materials, workmanship, and construction practices to ensure quality requirements are consistently met, and record findings accurately.
- Track site progress continuously and flag any departures from approved plans or emerging issues before they become major problems.
- Work closely with contractors, engineers, and project managers to resolve construction concerns in a clear and efficient manner.
- Draft structured inspection reports covering observations, test outcomes, recommendations, and supporting photos.
- Confirm that all work complies with health, safety, and environmental requirements and applicable regulations.
- Participate in site meetings and provide technical advice on construction-related matters.
- Examine and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and other project documents carefully.
- Ensure work follows local building codes, Saudi regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Keep inspection records, test documentation, and project communication logs organized and up to date.
- Detect defects or non-conformances and communicate them professionally to the relevant stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 10 years of experience in civil engineering or construction inspection, with strong exposure to earthworks and site preparation.
- Solid understanding of civil engineering fundamentals, earthworks methods, and current construction techniques.
- Strong grasp of quality assurance and quality control practices in construction.
- Ability to read, interpret, and evaluate technical drawings and specifications accurately.
- Strong report-writing ability and working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
- Good understanding of Saudi building codes, regulations, and compliance expectations.
- Knowledge of construction health and safety standards as well as environmental requirements.
- Certification in construction inspection, such as NICET or RICS, is an advantage.
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills with a sharp eye for defects and non-conformances.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across different levels of the organization.
- Ability to stay organized, manage priorities, and perform effectively in a busy, fast-moving environment.
- Willingness to work on-site in varying weather conditions and demanding environments.
- Experience verifying site safety compliance and identifying hazards.
- Background in managing contractors and coordinating with stakeholders.
- Strong documentation and record-keeping skills with close attention to detail.
- Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
