Job description
Overview
Mott MacDonald is seeking a Civil Engineer focused on water to join its Water Utilities Division in Ireland. The role is based in Dublin or Cork and supports work across water and wastewater projects for Ireland and the UK. You will contribute to a broad range of assignments, from early-stage investigations and feasibility work through to design and commissioning.
The team works on solutions that help protect water supplies, improve rivers and coastal environments, and deliver meaningful outcomes for communities. The company emphasizes collaboration, continuous learning, professional growth, and opportunities to develop toward chartered status.
About the team
The Water Utilities Division serves as a specialist centre for water and wastewater challenges in Ireland and the UK. Its multidisciplinary teams handle advisory work, studies, outline design, detailed design, and other phases across the full lifecycle of projects.
You would be joining an agile Ireland and UK resource team that works alongside experienced professionals on technically stimulating projects for major utility clients.
What the role involves
- Supporting investigations and design work across all stages of water and wastewater scheme development.
- Contributing to project delivery for a varied portfolio of water sector frameworks and assignments.
- Working with specialist colleagues to develop practical and innovative client solutions.
- Participating in master planning, detailed design, and commissioning activities.
- Helping mentor graduate engineers and contributing to a strong team culture.
Candidate profile
The ideal candidate will have a civil engineering or similarly relevant degree, and be working toward Chartered Engineer status through Engineers Ireland or an equivalent body. You should understand designer duties under PSDP regulations and have practical knowledge of water or wastewater specifications and design standards.
Strong communication and teamwork skills are important, along with the confidence to support project leadership and work effectively in a dynamic environment. Experience with utility clients such as Uisce Éireann, NI Water, Scottish Water, United Utilities, or comparable organisations is an advantage. Digital capability with tools such as Copilot/AI, AutoCAD, Civils 3D, GIS, and SharePoint is also desirable. The role may require travel to sites across Ireland.

- Access strong career progression, including support toward chartership and beyond.
