Role overview

This part-time, on-site role supports Child and Youth Services programs in Baumholder, Germany. The position focuses on delivering safe, age-appropriate care and structured activities for children and young people from 6 weeks through 18 years old.

Key duties

  • Provide developmental care and guided instruction for children and youth across the full age range served by CYS.
  • Keep close supervision of children and track their location and safety during everyday routines, indoor and outdoor play, excursions, outings, and special events.
  • Help carry out preplanned activities, schedules, and routines using prepared curriculum and materials for both group and individual participation.
  • Assist with serving or arranging snacks and meals as needed.
  • Recognize and react to urgent situations such as evacuations, illness, and children’s physical or emotional needs.

Employment conditions

  • A pre-employment physical, and future physicals as required, must be passed; proof of immunization and freedom from communicable disease are required.
  • For Child Development Center assignments, the employee must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs and routinely walk, bend, stoop, and stand.
  • The employee must have the sight and hearing capability needed for continuous supervision and immediate response.
  • Suspected child abuse or neglect must be reported as required by law.
  • All required DoW and service training, including orientation, initial, and annual training, must be completed on time, along with any required certifications; CPR and First Aid must remain current.
  • Failure to meet training or competency expectations may lead to separation.
  • Work may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, and can involve both indoor and outdoor settings, including occasional field trips.

Qualifications

  • For entry level consideration (CY-01), candidates must be at least 18 years old.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Applicants must be able to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • For higher graded consideration, college transcripts or certificates may be needed at application, and coursework or certifications must support the qualification level requested.
  • Resumes must be two pages or fewer and should clearly show relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Education

At minimum, a high school diploma or GED is required. Proof of education must be provided with the application. Education submitted must be directly relevant to the role; general education courses do not count toward credit totals. All education documents must be in English or accompanied by a translated copy. To meet entry-level requirements, applicants must upload a high school diploma, high school transcript showing the completion date, GED certificate, or proof of a college degree. Higher-level qualification review requires a college transcript showing coursework or certifications.

Compensation and employment notes

This is a pay-banded role. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander. Foreign overseas allowances, post allowance, and differentials will not be paid. Permanent Change of Station costs are not authorized. Applications may be considered for multiple openings for up to 90 days after submission, and additional referrals may be made for up to 90 days after the closing date. Management may assign staff to different locations based on mission needs.
