Job description
About the Role
Nexus Inclusion is building technology that improves digital inclusion and accessibility. The company is seeking a senior technology leader who can define the engineering direction, stay close to product delivery, and help create a more digitally equal world for people of all abilities and backgrounds.
This is a senior executive role for a hands-on engineering leader. You will set the technical vision, guide a mix of internal engineers and external partners, and still remain actively involved in technical decisions and code when required. The platform you help shape will influence how accessible products are designed and delivered.
The role reports to the CEO and COO and is based in Ireland with a hybrid working model. It is a full-time, permanent position at executive leadership level. Compensation includes a competitive salary, performance-based bonus, and benefits.
Technology Strategy and Architecture
- Define the overall technology strategy and convert the agreed product direction into architectural plans, technical priorities, and delivery roadmaps.
- Work closely with the Head of Product to shape product thinking while remaining accountable for successful delivery.
- Design and improve a scalable architecture that supports low latency, strong availability, and growth across the front end, back end, and APIs.
- Make practical build-versus-buy and tooling decisions that suit a startup budget, including choices around AWS and CI/CD.
- Set and enforce expectations for security, data protection, and GDPR across all shipped work.
- Build digital accessibility and WCAG compliance into design, development, and testing from the start.
Hands-On Engineering Leadership
- Lead development across React and Astro interfaces, Node.js services, secure REST APIs, and SQL/NoSQL data structures.
- Remain directly involved in engineering by contributing code, guiding technical design, and resolving difficult issues.
- Own code review practices, coding standards, reusable components, and broader engineering best practices.
- Drive product performance through responsive design, frontend optimisation, and overall web performance improvements.
Delivery, Quality, and Process
- Oversee delivery using Agile and Scrum, working in two-week sprint cycles with Product, Design, and DevOps.
- Create a strong testing culture with unit, integration, and end-to-end coverage so quality is built in from the outset.
- Keep documentation accurate and up to date for both frontend and backend systems.
- Improve development processes, tooling, and infrastructure as the team expands.
Team Leadership and Cross-Functional Partnership
- Lead, coach, and develop both internal and external engineering contributors.
- Manage agencies and development partners and ensure their output meets the same standards as internal work.
- Serve as the main technology contact for other teams across the business.
- Represent technology at leadership level in planning discussions, customer conversations, and scaling decisions.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will bring substantial software engineering experience, strong people leadership, and deep practical knowledge across modern web architecture, cloud infrastructure, and accessibility-led product development.
What We Offer
- A senior leadership position in a fast-growing startup focused on digital inclusion and accessibility.
- Competitive pay with a performance-related bonus.
- Eligibility for the company share scheme.
- 25 days of annual leave, plus Irish public holidays and a December holiday closure.
- Hybrid working and quarterly team off-site days.
Eligibility
Applicants need to be based in Ireland and already have a valid right to work there.
Additional Information
This is a full-time, permanent role at executive leadership level. The work environment is hands-on and collaborative, and the company is looking for someone who wants to shape the engineering function, product execution, and technical culture from the ground up.
Applicants should send a CV and a brief note explaining what they would like to build at Nexus Inclusion.
