About the Organization
Rose Brooks Center is a nonprofit agency serving survivors of domestic violence in Kansas City, Missouri. The organization is hiring a full-time Chief Operating Officer to support its mission and strengthen service delivery across the agency.
Role Overview
The Chief Operating Officer is a senior executive leader who reports to the Chief Executive Officer and works closely with the leadership team. This position is responsible for guiding program operations, organizational systems, and service infrastructure so they remain aligned with the agency’s mission, strategic priorities, and commitment to trauma-informed, accessible, and inclusive care.
The role also includes executive oversight of direct service programs, coordination with finance and development on grant-related work, and external representation of the organization with community partners, funders, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide executive direction for all direct service programs and the leaders who manage them.
- Support service delivery that is high quality, trauma-informed, accessible, and inclusive.
- Lead performance improvement efforts, quality initiatives, and accreditation work.
- Oversee program accountability, grant compliance, and reporting requirements.
- Partner with the CEO and senior leadership on strategy, planning, and organizational direction.
- Work with finance and development teams on grant administration and funding strategy.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with community partners and collaborators.
- Represent the agency in meetings, partnerships, events, and community collaborations.
Leadership Scope
This role supervises the Director of Clinical Services, Director of Community Programs, Director of Housing and Economic Advocacy, Director of Prevention, Director of Residential Services, and the Performance and Quality Improvement Manager.
Qualifications
Candidates should bring substantial nonprofit leadership experience, especially in violence prevention and intervention work. The role calls for proven ability to lead teams, manage complex operations, and collaborate effectively with executive leadership, board members, and cross-functional partners.
Required Experience and Strengths
- At least 5 years of director-level experience in a nonprofit setting.
- At least 5 years of experience in violence prevention and intervention.
- Experience supervising and developing high-performing teams.
- Strong leadership, strategic planning, and communication abilities.
- Background in grant management, administration, and compliance.
- History of meeting regulatory expectations and best-practice standards for service delivery.
- Ability to work effectively with executive leaders, board members, and cross-functional teams.
- Strong organization, time management, prioritization, and follow-through.
- Detail-focused, proactive, and skilled at solving problems.
Preferred Qualifications
- MSW, MPA, or an equivalent advanced degree is preferred.
- Comfort using Microsoft 365 is preferred.
Hours and Work Arrangement
This is a full-time, exempt position requiring at least 40 hours per week. The schedule is primarily Monday through Friday during daytime hours, though some evenings and weekends may be necessary. Work is performed mainly on site in Kansas City, Missouri.
