Job description
Role overview
We are hiring a Chief Operating Officer for a growing renewable energy EPC headquartered in Illinois. The company works on distributed generation, commercial and industrial solar, battery energy storage systems, rooftop solar, community solar, and ground-mount projects throughout PJM. It has a solid project pipeline, an established field team, and support from strong institutional investors.
What this role will focus on
This position calls for a practical operations leader who can improve project delivery, strengthen field leadership, raise safety standards, manage labor planning, and bring greater consistency to day-to-day operations. The COO will oversee project management and field operations across an active construction portfolio, with responsibility for schedule control, labor productivity, QA/QC, budget management, change-order discipline, and direct client-facing intervention on troubled projects when required.
Location
Illinois is the preferred base. Highly qualified remote candidates may also be considered, provided they can travel regularly to project sites.
Compensation
The package includes a competitive base salary, a bonus opportunity, and long-term incentive compensation.
Candidate profile
The ideal hire will bring senior-level operating leadership from electrical contracting, EPC, renewable energy construction, or a similar self-performing construction environment. The role suits someone with strong field credibility, commercial judgment, and a hands-on leadership style that fits a growing organization.
Qualifications
- Extensive leadership experience in operations within electrical contracting, EPC, renewable energy construction, or a related self-performing construction setting.
- Proven ability to work effectively with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and field crews.
- Experience overseeing several projects at once while maintaining control over schedule, labor, and cost.
- History of developing or restructuring project management and field leadership teams.
- Sound decision-making on budgets, contract exposure, change orders, and gross margin performance.
- A practical, approachable, and low-ego leadership style suited to a changing and expanding business.
Additional information
This is a high-profile leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys creating operating systems, driving accountability, and improving field execution.
