Job description
Role Overview
This is a confidential retained search for a Chief Operating Officer to join a rapidly expanding landscaping platform backed by private equity. The business operates across several U.S. markets and has grown through strong operational execution and acquisitions. It is now looking for a senior leader to guide the next stage of expansion.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the COO will oversee operational performance across the group’s portfolio of businesses. The position calls for a leader who can combine long-term strategy with direct, practical execution. The selected candidate will strengthen performance, establish scalable operating structures, develop leadership capability, and play a central role in bringing newly acquired businesses into the organisation.
This opportunity is well suited to someone who has led multi-site operations in a fast-moving environment and has experience scaling businesses through acquisition.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead operations across multiple business units and geographic locations at an executive level.
- Raise standards in efficiency, accountability, and ongoing improvement throughout the organisation.
- Design and implement systems, processes, and infrastructure that can support growth at scale.
- Work closely with the CEO and executive leadership team to deliver strategic priorities and business goals.
- Oversee integration of acquired businesses from early diligence through post-close implementation.
- Build and roll out a consistent framework for acquisition integration.
- Track and improve core business metrics, including revenue, EBITDA, productivity, safety, customer retention, and employee engagement.
- Mentor and develop regional leaders and operational management teams.
- Contribute to Board-level discussions with reporting, planning, and strategic insight.
- Spot opportunities to improve efficiency, increase profitability, and grow enterprise value.
- Travel frequently to operating companies throughout the United States.
Candidate Profile
The employer is seeking an executive with at least 15 years of progressive leadership experience in multi-site, service-focused organisations. Prior experience as a COO, SVP of Operations, VP of Operations, Regional President, or in a comparable executive role is preferred.
Applicants should have a strong record of managing large-scale operations with full P&L responsibility and of guiding organisations through acquisitions and rapid transformation. Experience in private equity-backed companies is highly desirable. Strong commercial judgment, financial understanding, and a history of delivering measurable outcomes are important, along with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
A bachelor’s degree is required, and an advanced degree is preferred. The role also requires a willingness to travel extensively.
