About the Role

The Larrakia Development Corporation (LDC), a leading Aboriginal-owned commercial organization, is seeking a Chief Executive to lead its mission of delivering sustainable economic independence and opportunities for the Larrakia people. This Darwin-based role offers a unique opportunity to blend commercial leadership with significant cultural impact, shaping a lasting legacy. LDC operates across property management, labor hire, trade services, and property development, and is developing the Larrakia Cultural Centre. The Chief Executive will report to an engaged Board, setting strategy, driving growth, and ensuring governance excellence. The position involves diverse activities, from consulting with Traditional Owners to negotiating with government and commercial partners, and fostering team development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set and execute organizational strategy to drive growth and prosperity for the Larrakia people.
  • Foster and manage commercial, community, and government partnerships.
  • Oversee operations across property management, labor hire, trade services, and property development.
  • Ensure excellence in governance and compliance.
  • Lead and inspire a team of approximately 50 staff, promoting development and high performance.
  • Engage with Traditional Owners, community members, and stakeholders to build consensus and advance the LDC's vision.
  • Negotiate with government and commercial entities to secure opportunities and resources.
  • Contribute to the development and success of landmark projects like the Larrakia Cultural Centre.

Requirements

  • Proven senior executive experience, ideally in sectors like infrastructure, construction, resources, or manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated ability to grow businesses that balance commercial objectives with social purpose.
  • Experience working effectively with Boards of Directors.
  • Proficiency in navigating government and regulatory landscapes.
  • Strong capability in building and leading teams, inspiring staff at all levels.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills and cultural awareness.
  • Ability to unite diverse stakeholders around a shared vision.
  • Tertiary qualifications in business, finance, engineering, or a related field are advantageous.
  • Prior experience working with Aboriginal organizations or communities is highly desirable.
