Role overview

dnata is seeking a motivated Catering Leading Hand to join its busy Perth Airport catering operation on a full-time basis. This role suits someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced aviation environment, can lead by example, and is comfortable balancing hands-on kitchen work with team supervision.

Key responsibilities

  • Set the standard on shift by carrying out the duties of a Senior Catering Attendant and Catering Attendant to a high level.
  • Oversee, guide, train, and induct team members in assigned areas while following internal and external policies and procedures.
  • Apply quality control practices to make sure customer requirements and product specifications are consistently achieved.
  • Keep the work area well arranged and ensure productivity and performance targets are met.
  • Look for ways to improve efficiency and output within the designated work zone.
  • Check and resolve stocktake variances and other inventory discrepancies.
  • Use knives and machinery safely and effectively.
  • Make sure team members take allocated breaks and follow published rosters.
  • Show strong planning and time management across the shift.
  • Carry out instructions from management and support operational needs.
  • Complete all required paperwork and customer-related documentation accurately.
  • Handle administrative and reporting tasks as needed.
  • Follow Galley Loading Plan, Cart Packing Plan, and Equipment Loading Plan requirements where relevant.
  • Comply with company standards related to HALAL, HACCP, QSAI/Food Safety, Workplace Health and Safety, Quarantine, and Customs.
  • Be willing to move between areas of the unit during a shift if operational demands require it.

What you need to succeed

  • Availability to work a variety of shifts across a seven-day roster on a full-time basis.
  • Previous experience in a food production or food service environment.
  • Good organisational ability and time management.
  • Basic knife-handling capability.
  • Fine motor control suited to detailed food handling tasks.
  • Access to your own transport.
  • Strong numeracy skills.
  • Working knowledge of workplace health and safety and hygiene practices.
  • Experience with HACCP procedures.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to stay effective under pressure in a busy open-plan kitchen.
  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
