Role overview
Amazon’s MENA Grocery team is hiring for a high-impact category leadership role focused on building a new business in Amazon Now SA from the ground up. This opportunity suits someone who can adapt quickly in a fast-moving environment, establish trust with cross-functional partners, and take clear ownership in a setting shaped by complex business, technology, and operations processes. Success in this role depends on strong judgment, sharp analysis, and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing.
You will help shape the strategic direction of the category by influencing internal and external stakeholders, including leadership, while building sourcing and buying strategies for a new category. The role also calls for disciplined execution and ongoing performance analysis to improve business outcomes.
The category leader is expected to grow vendor partnerships, expand assortment, manage profitability, optimize pricing, and help develop the team. The ideal candidate brings leadership maturity, strong commercial instincts, negotiation skills, curiosity, and a commitment to delivering a premium customer experience. This is a highly autonomous role in a demanding and ambiguous environment.
You should also bring a strong record of delivering projects, handling commercial negotiations, and managing relationships, along with solid analytical capability. The role involves coordination with many stakeholders, including marketing, marketplace, legal, supply chain, and operations teams.
Key responsibilities
- Partner closely with external vendors to shape seasonal assortment and long shelf-life fresh/frozen space, while helping define repeatable operating procedures for business scaling.
- Support the category lead in driving strategic initiatives and uncovering new business opportunities.
- Lead negotiations to build strategic partnerships, close end-to-end vendor terms, and establish operating model contracts.
- Develop the annual seasonal portfolio to increase traffic and engagement on the storefront.
- Spot automation opportunities that create scalable solutions and improve core metrics such as selection, profitability, pricing, and availability.
- After launch, manage the P&L to deliver top- and bottom-line goals and drive profitability initiatives with vendors, operations, and advertising partners.
- Define the assortment and continually refine the mix at dark-store level to lower shrinkage and improve customer experience.
- Source promotional deals for Tier 1 and Tier 2 events to maintain value for Prime customers.
- Negotiate vendor marketing support for category visibility during always-on and event periods.
- Prepare, present, and close annual joint business plans.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of Excel experience.
- More than 5 years of experience in retail, operations, product or program management, or business management/consulting, with a strong background in negotiation and results delivery.
- Experience in financial analysis and ownership of P&L performance.
- Ability to work effectively with large datasets and use them to improve performance and processes is preferred.
- Knowledge of online retail or e-commerce is preferred.
