Job description
Role overview
An established civil recruitment opportunity is open for an experienced Site Traffic Management Supervisor (STMS) to support a busy pipeline of infrastructure work. The role is site-based and integrated with civil construction crews across the Waikato, where traffic management forms part of the wider delivery of projects rather than being a separate standalone function.
You will be responsible for Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) across active civil works, including road rebuilds, subdivision development, drainage activities, and broader infrastructure improvements. The position is hands-on and requires active involvement with the site team, not just traffic setup and monitoring from the sidelines.
Key duties
- Oversee STMS activities across several civil worksites and projects
- Put approved Traffic Management Plans into practice and monitor their delivery
- Work in close coordination with site managers, foremen, and engineers
- Run toolbox meetings and daily traffic safety briefings
- Maintain full compliance with CoPTTM and NZTA requirements
- Prepare site inspections, written reports, and supporting documentation
- Assist civil crews on site whenever additional support is needed
What the employer is seeking
The ideal candidate will already hold a practising STMS licence and have practical exposure to civil construction environments. Confidence working alongside drainage, roading, and earthworks teams is important, as is the ability to communicate clearly and lead site traffic activities effectively.
A full Class 1 driver licence is required, and a Class 2 licence would be an advantage. The employer is looking for someone dependable, proactive, and firmly focused on safety and compliance.
Pay and benefits
The hourly rate is between $30 and $35, plus 8% holiday pay, with the final rate depending on experience and licence level. The role offers ongoing work across a solid pipeline of Waikato projects, exposure to well-established civil contractors, stable long-term project involvement, and scope to develop further within civil operations.
Additional conditions
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must hold a current practising STMS licence, have valid New Zealand work rights, and be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
