Role overview

This position is for a locally owned Shoppers Drug Mart store in Duncan, British Columbia. The Cash Manager is accountable for leading the cash department by managing people, physical assets, and financial controls, while also working across store teams to support overall business goals and strong customer care.

Key responsibilities

  • Set the tone for the team by modelling expected behaviours and reinforcing the store’s core values.
  • Participate in hiring by interviewing cashier candidates and recommending final selections.
  • Make sure cashier staff follow all store standards and procedures.
  • Prepare cashier schedules, including shifts, days off, and vacation time, within approved guidelines.
  • Provide training, ongoing coaching, and day-to-day direction to cashier employees.
  • Support cashier performance reviews together with the FSM.

Customer service expectations

  • Ensure customers receive service that goes beyond basic expectations.
  • Confirm that staff present a professional appearance in line with the uniform policy.
  • Ensure cashiers request the PC Optimum card during every transaction.
  • Support company programs such as PC Optimum and fundraising efforts with customers and staff.
  • Oversee cash-related promotions and offers.
  • Keep the team updated on weekly promotions and the scanning code of practice.
  • Ensure lottery trays are maintained to standard, kept locked, and handled in line with lottery legislation and policy.

Financial duties

  • Carry out clerical and banking tasks as required.
  • Support coin ordering and resolve any differences connected to cash or coin orders.
  • Maintain the cash office and safe in accordance with store standards.
  • Run weekly transaction exception reports to identify variances.
  • Prepare weekly cash over/short reports and investigate differences.
  • Apply knowledge of charge accounts where relevant.

Loss prevention

  • Ensure all loss prevention procedures and systems are followed according to standards.
  • Confirm parcel-check procedures are completed properly.

Qualifications and experience

This role calls for sound judgment, planning, and decision-making skills, including the ability to assess customer issues independently and choose appropriate solutions by asking the right questions. The successful candidate must also be able to act on management’s tasks and goals.

Relevant background should include supervisory and labour management experience, along with experience in retail or grocery and cash handling. Strong interpersonal ability, good time management, financial analysis skills, and clear verbal and written communication are important, as well as solid organization, planning, and a strong commitment to customer service.

Working conditions

Flexible scheduling is required, and shifts may include nights and weekends.
