Role overview

Equans is hiring a Caretaker for Ken Stimpson School on Staniland Way in Peterborough (PE4 6JY). This is a permanent, full-time position of 40 hours per week, offering a salary of £28,851 per year plus a benefits package.

Working pattern

  • Monday to Friday shifts rotate between 07:00–16:00 and 13:00–22:00.
  • Week 1 hours: 06:00–15:00.
  • Week 2 hours: 10:30–19:30.
  • There is an on-call rota roughly once every three weeks.

What the role involves

The post is focused on keeping the school environment safe, secure, clean, and presentable for staff, pupils, and visitors. It is a practical, hands-on job that calls for someone dependable, organised, and able to take initiative.

Key duties

  • Serve as the primary point of contact on site for facilities-related requests.
  • Complete assigned work within agreed deadlines.
  • Support day-to-day building operations, including opening, closing, and site security.
  • Act quickly when maintenance problems or emergencies arise.
  • Keep the premises clean, orderly, and safe.
  • Develop positive working relationships with staff, clients, and contractors.
  • Keep an eye on site activity, including parking areas and visitor access.
  • Accept deliveries and move equipment when required.
  • Assist with cleaning standards and flag any concerns.
  • Follow health and safety rules as well as company procedures.
  • Be able to work alone and also collaborate across multiple sites when needed.
