Job description
Role overview
This position is a practical, visible, and hands-on opportunity to improve residents’ day-to-day environment. As a Caretaker, you will help maintain clean, safe, and well-kept communal spaces across housing schemes, with the impact of your work being seen and appreciated every day.
You will focus on regular cleaning, basic upkeep, and small repair tasks in shared areas, helping to ensure the buildings and surrounding spaces remain tidy, compliant, and welcoming.
Key duties
You will look after a defined patch, taking responsibility for the everyday presentation, cleanliness, and minor maintenance of communal and shared areas. The role involves working independently for much of the time, while also liaising with housing, neighbourhood, and contractor teams to support safe and orderly schemes.
From time to time, you may work with other caretakers on joint tasks, cover different schemes, or assist with larger jobs. The role is frontline and practical, with a strong focus on neighbourhood standards, environmental care, and day-to-day site management.
What we are looking for
The ideal person will be dependable, practical, and self-driven, with pride in keeping shared environments clean and well maintained. You should be comfortable working to procedure, taking ownership of your area, and contributing to health, safety, and fire compliance.
You will also need to be open to learning, willing to develop your cleaning and maintenance abilities, and able to communicate clearly with colleagues, contractors, and customers.
Checks and requirements
The successful applicant must complete a Basic DBS check, a DVLA check, and a Right to Work check before starting.
