Role overview
The City of Farmington Hills is building an eligibility list for present and future firefighter openings. The role centers on emergency response, fire prevention, equipment care, and support duties that help the department operate effectively.
Core duties
In this position, you would respond to fire department emergencies and medical calls, operate and look after fire apparatus and department property, complete clerical tasks, and take part in assigned fire prevention activities. The job may also include specialized responsibilities such as EMT Coordinator, Plan Review Officer, or Hazardous Materials Coordinator.
Experience and education
Prior background in firefighting and emergency medical response is preferred. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, and an associate degree is preferred.
Licenses, certifications, and other requirements
Applicants must hold Fire Fighter I and II certifications, Hazardous Materials Operations certification, and a State of Michigan Emergency Medical Paramedic License at the time of hire. All required documents must be submitted with the application. A valid State of Michigan driver's license is required, along with no serious misdemeanor record, traffic violations, or felony record. Candidates must have 20/20 vision or vision correctable to that level. Certification from the Conference of Western Wayne Schoolcraft College Fire Training Institutes Testing Program is required for both the written exam and the Candidate Physical Agility Testing (CPAT).
Schedule and compensation
The work schedule consists of 24-hour shifts on a rotation of 1 on / 2 off / 1 on / 4 off, with overtime as needed. The posted pay range is $55,533 to $83,281.

The City is accepting applications to create an eligibility list for both immediate and upcoming vacancies. Consideration is limited to qualified CWW test participants. Applicants must submit the City of Farmington Hills online application together with current Fire and EMS certifications. The CWW and Schoolcraft College Fire Training Institute testing certificates must be provided before hire. Testing information is available through the Schoolcraft College firefighter testing program.
