Job description
About the role
This opportunity is for a Barista to join a Tesco Café team in Bicester. The role suits someone who is passionate about quality drinks, good food, and delivering a strong customer experience. You will prepare coffees, teas, and seasonal beverages that help make each customer visit enjoyable, whether they are stopping by after shopping or meeting someone for a catch-up.
You should bring Barista experience, or broader hospitality experience, and be ready to share what you know with colleagues. A key part of the role is staying fully aware of the café menu, new launches, stock levels, and customer needs so service remains quick, accurate, and efficient.
Tesco Cafés focus on developing people as well as serving customers. In this role, you will help support the growth of team members as baristas, work alongside the Café Manager on development needs, and use the Click and Learn portal plus other café learning tools to build your own skills.
Applicants must be 18 years old or above.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and serve a variety of drinks efficiently and at pace.
- Follow food safety and hygiene rules to maintain required standards.
- Monitor stock levels regularly and follow company policies and procedures.
- Work with the Café Manager to identify colleagues who could develop further as baristas.
- Stay informed about Tesco communications, promotions, menu updates, and new initiatives.
- Handle customer complaints where possible and help resolve issues promptly.
What we’re looking for
- Previous experience as a barista or in a hospitality setting.
- A strong focus on delivering excellent customer service.
- Confidence to coach and train others in an inclusive and supportive way.
- Good planning and organisational ability.
- Self-starter attitude with the ability to spot improvements and adapt to changing situations.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with colleagues and the Café Manager.
Benefits and workplace support
- 10% discount, increasing to 15% on pay-day weekends, plus access to a Colleague Clubcard that can save up to £2,000 a year and includes an extra card to share with family outside your home.
- Flexible working requests available from day one.
- Retirement savings plan.
- Life assurance.
- Free wellbeing support with resources for mental, physical, and overall life balance.
- Access to a discounts website with savings on everyday purchases, family treats, eating out, and household bills.
- Provided uniform and supportive policies for important life moments.
- 28 days of holiday from the start, including Bank Holidays.
- Access to colleague networks and communities.
