Job description

Role Overview

This position is responsible for overseeing end-to-end supply management for the assigned materials category, ensuring the right balance of cost, quality, and timelines while supporting the vertical head. The role focuses on tactical sourcing, procurement planning, stakeholder coordination, budget control, and team development within the market segment group.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage category-wise supply activities from start to finish, keeping procurement outcomes aligned with cost, quality, and delivery targets.
  • Work closely with the Procurement Lead and project buying teams to ensure sourcing is executed in line with category strategy.
  • Coach buyers to follow both short-term and long-term procurement plans, covering supplier management, pricing, contracts, terms and conditions, and lead times.
  • Oversee supplier identification, qualification checks, and shortlisting for the assigned materials or services.
  • Handle issuance of RFQs/enquiries, review supplier responses, and prepare detailed comparative statements.
  • Support sourcing and negotiation planning for key spend areas and drive negotiations for major purchases.
  • Validate final supplier commitments in line with approval limits and make sure Finance, Commercial & Administration, and Legal inputs are secured.
  • Review and support agreement creation with selected suppliers.
  • Lead annual procurement planning and budgeting for the assigned tactical sourcing categories.
  • Help buyers prepare plans based on business needs, consolidate inputs, and define targets for each buyer.
  • Track spend against budget regularly, identify deviations, and implement corrective actions to control overspending.
  • Suggest cost-saving initiatives with the planning and strategy team to improve total cost of ownership.
  • Build, guide, and develop team capability within the market segment group.
  • Assess current team strengths, identify skill gaps, and create development plans with training and career actions.
  • Set goals, review performance, provide feedback, and support employee engagement and retention.

Requirements

  • A B.Tech or B.E. degree is required; procurement certification will be considered a plus.
  • 15 to 18 years of experience in a similar setup or industry is expected.
  • Strong analytical thinking and a detail-oriented approach are important for success in this role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are needed.
  • Working knowledge of equipment and process/maintenance activities is required.
  • Sound commercial judgment and business acumen are essential.
