Role overview
The Buyer will manage the assortment strategy for several product classes, reviewing performance data, spotting growth opportunities, and shaping a lineup that stays aligned with current trends and delivers strong value. This role also focuses on monitoring fashion shifts, influencers, aspirational brands, and the competitive market to keep the assortment relevant and commercially effective.
You will also strengthen relationships across cross-functional teams and with vendors, using customer and sales insights to improve revenue, profitability, and market share. This position is based in Los Angeles and requires working from the LA office three days each week, Tuesday through Thursday.
Key responsibilities
- Develop class-specific buying strategies with an emphasis on assortment growth and identifying uncovered opportunities.
- Build assortment architecture and line plans that support product roadmaps for both internal development and third-party brands, while improving revenue, conversion, and full-price sell-through.
- Shape a product mix that reflects Lulus customer profiles, stays on trend, and offers compelling price-to-value.
- Maintain strong partnerships with cross-functional teams including Development, Planning, Merchandising, Production, and Marketing.
- Work with Planning to manage open-to-buy and support KPI achievement.
- Ensure each product line is a strong match for the intended customer.
- Develop and nurture vendor relationships.
- Source new samples and vendors and recommend products for sale on Lulus.com.
- Supervise and coach Associate or Assistant Buyers when the class structure requires it.
- Negotiate product quality, quantities, and delivery timelines with vendors.
- Coordinate with Merchandising so marketing and content teams receive aligned product stories and campaign direction.
- Monitor markdown activity for older inventory.
- Review performance of best-selling and underperforming styles, colors, and materials.
- Partner with the Senior Director on assortment reviews for leadership.
- Handle special projects and problem-solving requests from senior leadership as needed.
- Travel when required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience.
- 4 to 6 years of retail buying experience.
- Background in buying women's apparel and/or accessories.
- Demonstrated success in meeting KPI targets and contributing to market share growth.
- Strong commercial mindset, analytical ability, and retail math knowledge.
- Excellent negotiation capability.
- Solid understanding of trends and fashion.
- Deep familiarity with the Lulus customer base.
- Ability to make creative buying decisions that meet customer demand.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Solution-focused approach with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across the organization.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving environment with tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
