Job description
Role overview
Wines Direct is looking to add a sales and business development professional to its Galway team. The company works directly with independent growers across the world and has built a strong position in the Irish wine market, serving many leading restaurants and hotels. This opening is focused on growth across Galway and the West of Ireland and suits someone who combines commercial drive with a genuine interest in wine and food service.
The position is field-based and involves working closely with an experienced Sales Manager. The right person will be energetic, confident, and motivated to build territory performance, win new business, and strengthen long-term customer relationships.
Key duties
- Identify new opportunities and actively open fresh business within the assigned territory.
- Take responsibility for the commercial performance of the area and work toward agreed targets.
- Partner with the Sales Manager to deliver business objectives.
- Develop strong customer relationships so sales potential in the territory is fully captured.
- Work to a call plan, while staying flexible to customer needs and visit requirements.
- Create leads through networking, social media, referrals, warm calls, and cold outreach.
- Manage accounts after sale, support customer satisfaction, and seek referrals.
- Own customer issues and see them through to resolution.
- Attend training to strengthen product, technique, and market knowledge.
- Keep up to date with the product range, service offering, and broader industry changes.
- Use Microsoft Office regularly and maintain strong IT competence.
- Use social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter where helpful.
Candidate profile
The ideal applicant brings prior sales or business development experience in the on-trade environment, along with a real interest in wine and the wine industry. A WSET qualification is an advantage but not essential.
Success in this role will require a target-focused mindset, the ability to build new business independently, strong negotiation ability, excellent time management, and the flexibility to handle a busy field sales workload. The company is also looking for someone who is proactive, resilient, commercially aware, and comfortable working as part of a team while maintaining a professional and personable approach.
A full clean driving licence is required, and the candidate should ideally live within the proposed catchment area.
What this role offers
- Salary based on experience.

- Expense coverage for items such as petrol and parking.
- Mobile phone and laptop provided.
- Full and ongoing training on the product range.
Working pattern
This is a full-time, Monday to Friday role based on the road across Galway and the West of Ireland.
