Job description

Role overview

Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan is hiring a Business Analyst to join an agile, product-focused delivery team in Toronto. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys translating business needs into practical solutions, improving processes, and partnering closely with technology and business stakeholders.

You will be embedded in a self-directed agile squad with a Product Owner, developers, and QA colleagues, all working together to deliver meaningful outcomes for clients. A key part of the role is helping define requirements, business decisions, documentation, and solution detail, while also bringing enough technical understanding to configure low-code and no-code tools such as Microsoft Power Platform.

How you will work

In this position, you will report to the Product Engineering Leader and collaborate across several functions, including product ownership, software engineering, quality assurance, application management, and external vendor consultants. The work spans a portfolio of products and features, and the focus is on delivering business value through clearly defined outcomes.

This is a practical, hands-on role for someone who likes working with others, building domain knowledge, and solving business problems in a delivery environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Partner with the Product Owner and delivery team to clarify product objectives and move them forward.
  • Use agile requirements practices such as user stories, use cases, value modelling, and value stream mapping to shape solutions.
  • Work directly with business clients to uncover needs, confirm desired outcomes, and ensure solutions align with business intent and deliver measurable value.
  • Identify relevant internal and external data sources and create data mapping specifications or data workspaces for applications and reporting.
  • Collaborate with product teams, Data & Analytics, vendors, and business partners to evaluate whether data is available and suitable for use.
  • Describe how data moves and changes from source systems through repositories or warehouses into data marts and end-user applications.
  • Support the handoff to support teams by providing business context, solution knowledge, and delivery artifacts needed for production readiness.
  • Work with development and QA teams to define test scenarios and help ensure business requirements are properly tested.
  • Prepare high-quality business analysis documentation, including requirements, current-state and future-state processes, workflows, and report specifications.
  • Keep requirements documentation organized in a central repository and supply the delivery team with detailed user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Help initiate and plan projects by supporting the definition of objectives, scope, and deliverables.
  • Capture and implement business requirements in low-code/no-code platforms such as Microsoft Power Platform and Power BI.

What the role requires

  • A university degree or comparable experience in Business, Finance, Financial Mathematics, Computer Science, or Engineering.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a role such as Business Analyst, Business Consultant, Product/Application Support, or Data Analyst.
  • Working knowledge of institutional investment products, including exchange-traded products, derivatives, private investments, or alternative investments.
  • Experience participating in client acceptance activities such as UAT or Sprint Reviews.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of the investment lifecycle, especially related workflows and business processes.
  • Exposure to leading practices in business analysis, project management, and process improvement.
  • A forward-looking mindset with the ability to adjust quickly when priorities, tasks, or solutions change.
  • Experience working with product-led delivery and technology teams to solve business problems and create value.
  • Understanding of SDLC phases, including planning, analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Good grasp of agile and waterfall delivery methods, including the difference between needs and wants.
  • Knowledge of Corporate Affairs and Compliance topics such as position limit monitoring, substantial shareholder disclosure, and tax would be an asset.
  • Data management and database knowledge, including PL/SQL and platforms such as Oracle, Snowflake, or MS SQL.
  • Exposure to tools and technologies such as Microsoft Power Platform, Power BI, Excel Power Pivot, Python, Charles River, Bloomberg Terminal, SimCorp Dimension, and Jira would be beneficial.
  • Experience working with AI agents.
