Job description
About Watercare
Watercare is investing heavily in Auckland’s future, with plans to commit $14 billion across the next decade to help the city grow in a way that is resilient to climate change. That works out to about $3.8 million being invested every day. The organisation is focused on protecting water, land, and people, guided by the idea that healthy water supports healthy communities and ecosystems.
About the role
This opportunity is for an experienced Business Analyst to join Watercare’s Digital team in Newmarket and contribute to initiatives that improve services for Auckland communities. The role involves owning business analysis across digital projects, working closely with stakeholders, identifying improvement opportunities, turning business needs into clear requirements, and supporting delivery from discovery through implementation.
You will work in Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery settings, running workshops, documenting requirements, supporting solution design, and helping drive change adoption. The position suits someone who enjoys collaboration, problem-solving, and seeing their work translate into real outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Take responsibility for business analysis across projects and workstreams from start to finish, helping set direction and maintain clarity.
- Identify, interpret, and communicate business needs, pain points, and improvement opportunities.
- Run workshops and group sessions that support discovery, alignment, and idea development.
- Convert business requirements into clear documentation, including actionable requirements and user stories.
- Develop process maps and BPMN models to aid analysis and decision-making.
- Work closely with technical teams to make sure proposed solutions are workable and aligned to business needs.
- Participate in solution design discussions with a strong understanding of business impact.
- Develop effective working relationships across both business and technical stakeholders.
- Present updates and insights clearly and confidently.
- Assist with change-related activities such as communications, training, and transition support.
- Create documentation that meets Watercare standards and good practice expectations.
- Maintain artefacts in Confluence, track work in Jira, and build models in Lucid.
- Look for ways to improve business analysis methods and practices over time.
