Role overview
The Business Analyst is responsible for understanding business needs, documenting processes and requirements, and helping improve systems and ways of working. This position supports solution design and helps ensure that delivery stays aligned with what the business needs.
Key responsibilities
- Define practical approaches for gathering and shaping requirements.
- Refine the product backlog based on priorities set by the product owner and key stakeholders.
- Produce clear and detailed process maps.
- Partner with the product owner and stakeholders to understand scope and propose improvements to requirements.
- Participate in requirements and design workshops to translate needs into user stories for the proposed solution.
- Apply business and divisional insight to assess impacts on related processes and identify further testing needs.
- Collaborate with business and IT teams to make sure system solutions fully satisfy business requirements.
- Write requirements as user stories with suitable acceptance criteria.
- Add enough context and detail at the appropriate stage so the development team can work effectively.
- Provide supporting documentation such as process documentation, business domain models, event and interaction models, and any other material needed to deliver against the stories.
Experience and skills
- At least 3 years of business analysis experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in requirements gathering and documentation.
- A balanced mix of technical understanding and commercial awareness.
- A customer-first mindset and ABCD thinking approach.
- Proactive attitude, strong self-starting ability, and good project management skills.
- Capability to handle several tasks at once effectively.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage, influence, and inspire stakeholders.
- High levels of organisation, initiative, and accountability.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving environment with limited supervision.
- Strong ownership of performance and its contribution to business success.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills.
- Confident written and verbal communication for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborative team player who can contribute ideas to improve delivery and related processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, with a pragmatic approach to evaluating designs and technologies.
