Role summary
The Branch Floater plays an important frontline role in creating a positive experience for customers visiting the branch. This position is also a key part of compliance control, helping ensure shipments meet customs and shipping regulations. The role involves careful processing, sorting, and handling of shipments, along with strong proficiency in the company platform and a focus on finding practical, efficient ways to complete work while staying aligned with company values.
The person in this role builds strong relationships with customers and colleagues, arrives on time, is prepared for work, and maintains a clean, orderly branch environment. The primary work location is Burlington, Ontario, with flexibility to support other branches in the Halton region when needed.
Client-facing duties
- Welcome customers in a way that reflects the company’s brand and values.
- Create and maintain positive relationships with customers while representing the business professionally and identifying opportunities to strengthen the customer relationship.
- Keep the branch clean, safe, and well organized.
- Handle reception tasks and administrative support, including responding to customer questions by phone, email, and in person.
- Provide consultative support by answering questions and recommending suitable products and services.
- Handle shipments carefully, including scanning, sorting, and loading items onto skids.
- Monitor inventory levels and order supplies when needed.
- Manage incoming and outgoing customer returns.
- Complete shipment compliance checks accurately and thoroughly.
- Educate customers on shipping rules for Canadian, U.S., and international shipments, including restrictions, weight, dimensions, and packaging requirements.
- Ensure batch processing is accurate and that the correct identifiers are used for each batch.
- Prepare bills of lading that are complete, true, and accurate.
- Document and escalate shipment or customer issues appropriately.
- Complete shipment processing and compliance reviews in a timely manner.
- Support drivers during loading and unloading of freight.
- Carry out fulfillment-related tasks from the branch as needed, such as picking, packing, shipping, and charging.
- Take on additional duties as required.
Team responsibilities
- Provide support to other branches when staffing is limited.
- Follow all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
- Open and close branches when needed.
- Adhere strictly to company policies and procedures.
- Follow all compliance requirements carefully.
- Maintain an escalation log and share summary updates with management.
- Work with teammates to improve efficiency and reduce costs where possible.
- Communicate effectively with other team members.
- Assist with occasional extra tasks or projects.
Working schedule
The branch currently operates Monday to Friday from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with occasional Sunday coverage if needed.
Qualifications and work expectations
- At least 2 years of customer service experience is required.
- Experience with profit and loss responsibilities is preferred.
- Strong computer ability is needed, including working knowledge of Moneris, Google Docs, and Microsoft Office.
- The candidate must be willing to take full responsibility for branch operations.
- Comfortable standing for extended periods.
- Heavy lifting may be part of the job.
- Must be able to manage multiple tasks, stay detail-oriented, and maintain a positive attitude.
- Should be proactive and ready to help keep logistics operations running smoothly by stepping in where needed.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Typing speed of at least 50 words per minute is required.
- Opening and closing an office for 1+ year is considered an asset.
- 1+ year of office administration experience is required as part of the profile.
- Must be committed to customer service, willing to go the extra mile, and focused on resolving issues properly for clients.
- Should be dependable, organized, trustworthy, and positive in outlook.
Compensation and benefits
The starting wage is $19.00 per hour.
Employees receive employer-paid group benefits covering health, dental, and vision at 80% coverage, starting after 3 months.
An annual performance-based year-end bonus is available.
The role includes two weeks of paid vacation.
Birthday leave is paid.
A GRSP plan is available, with eligibility beginning after 3 months of employment.
