Job description
About the role
Mercor is looking for a biotechnology research specialist to help assess AI outputs for advanced life sciences work. The company connects highly skilled creative and technical professionals with leading AI research teams. It is based in San Francisco and is supported by investors such as Benchmark, General Catalyst, Peter Thiel, Adam D'Angelo, Larry Summers, and Jack Dorsey.
This opportunity is for a remote contract position focused on reviewing, validating, and improving AI-generated content connected to molecular biology and biotechnology research.
What you will do
- Examine AI-produced responses tied to experimental planning, genomic analysis, protein studies, and biotech research methods.
- Build believable research scenarios from lab and scientific workflows, including gene expression studies, CRISPR protocols, and proteomics interpretation.
- Tag, verify, and annotate data across biotech use cases such as sequencing workflow correctness and molecular target discovery.
- Deliver structured feedback on AI performance in molecular biology techniques, genomics and proteomics standards, and regulatory expectations.
- Work asynchronously with research teams to improve evaluation frameworks for biotechnology-focused AI systems.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of professional or postdoctoral experience in biotechnology, genomics, proteomics, or molecular biology.
- Practical exposure to genomics and next-generation sequencing, proteomics, molecular biology, or drug discovery.
- A master’s degree or PhD in a relevant life sciences discipline is strongly preferred.
- Prior work in a biotech firm, CRO, academic lab, or pharmaceutical R&D setting.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to convert complex research processes into structured evaluation tasks.
- Excellent written communication and careful attention to detail.
Compensation and work terms
The pay is $1,150–$1,450 for each completed task. Compensation is described as competitive and tied to task quality. High performers can receive a weekly bonus, and top contributors may later move to an hourly pay structure.
Application process
The application is expected to take about 20–30 minutes and includes uploading a resume, completing an AI interview based on the resume, and submitting the form.
Support
For interview and platform details, the role includes a support resource and a contact email for assistance.
Additional information
The team reviews applications every day. Candidates are expected to complete the AI interview and all application steps to be considered. The original posting also lists the position as a biotechnology research expert, with a fully remote location and contract arrangement.
