Job description

About Mindrift

Mindrift facilitates project-based artificial intelligence opportunities for top technology firms, concentrating on the testing, evaluation, and enhancement of AI systems. Participation is structured around specific projects rather than permanent employment.

About This Opportunity

In this role, you will be responsible for creating computational biology challenges designed to test a cutting-edge AI model. Each challenge must have a solution that can be verified programmatically and necessitate the use of specialized tools such as NEURON, Brian2, OpenSim, AMICI, MNE-Python, or similar. Standard data manipulation tasks using genome browsers are not sufficient. Problems will be executed within isolated Linux containers equipped with the necessary tools and a programmatic judge for scoring the AI model's responses.

Responsibilities

  • Develop computational biology problems that leverage specific biophysical models, ODE/PDE systems, biomechanical formulations, or sequence algorithms, centered around a chosen anchor tool.
  • Create a Python-based reference solution, provide necessary input files, and supply model or network definitions.
  • Determine the correct numerical answer and establish an acceptable tolerance range for the AI model's solution based on domain-specific standards.
  • Iteratively test the designed problems against the AI model in parallel batches, adjusting the difficulty to achieve a target success rate.
  • Submit completed tasks for review by a senior specialist in the relevant subfield to ensure high quality and adherence to standards.

What We Look For

  • A degree in Biology or a related scientific discipline.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in research, applied work, or teaching within a relevant biological field.
  • Proficiency in Python for developing accurate reference solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience with, or a strong commitment to independently learning, at least one specialized computational biology package (e.g., NEURON, Brian2, NEST, OpenSim, AMICI, libroadrunner, MNE-Python, Biopython).
  • The ability to conceptualize and design problems that require advanced solver capabilities.
  • Excellent written English communication skills, equivalent to C1 level or higher.

Additional Information

Candidates are requested to submit their CV in English and specify their English language proficiency level. While prior experience with all listed tools is not mandatory, applicants must be prepared to acquire the necessary skills independently and begin contributing promptly. This role is project-based and not a permanent employment position.

Project Details

Active project phases are estimated to require approximately 10-20 hours per week. This is an estimate and the actual workload may vary based on project needs.

Compensation

Contributors can earn up to the equivalent of $35 per hour, with the final rate dependent on individual expertise, performance, and project scope. Compensation levels may differ across various projects available on the platform.
