Job description

About the Company

1862 Events is a hospitality specialist focused on bartender and wait staff hire, along with beverage service solutions for events. The business builds custom bar and drinks packages for private celebrations and corporate functions, handling everything from small gatherings of about 10 people to major festivals with over 20,000 attendees. The brand identity reflects a long-standing respect for cocktail culture and professional service, and the company is committed to delivering polished guest experiences, efficient bar operations, and memorable events for a wide range of clients.

Role Overview

This is a contract, on-site position based in Auckland, with occasional travel outside Auckland depending on client needs. The Bar Staff member will be responsible for preparing and serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, keeping the bar area tidy and well organised, and making sure stock is rotated, replenished, and displayed to company standards. The role also includes welcoming guests, taking orders, processing payments, setting up and packing down bar areas for events, and working in line with health, safety, and responsible alcohol service requirements. You will also support the wider team during busy service periods. The company values development within the team and offers flexible working hours.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to guests.
  • Keep the bar clean, orderly, and operating to a professional standard.
  • Monitor stock levels, rotate products correctly, and replenish supplies as needed.
  • Welcome guests, take orders, and handle payment processing.
  • Set up bar stations before events and dismantle them after service.
  • Follow all health, safety, and responsible alcohol service procedures.
  • Support other team members during peak and high-volume service periods.
  • Travel outside Auckland when required for client events.

Requirements

  • Strong customer service ability with a friendly, guest-focused approach.
  • Confident and professional communication with guests, colleagues, and event partners.
  • Basic understanding or prior exposure to food and beverage service.
  • Bar, hospitality, or events experience is preferred, but not essential.
  • Availability for flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and event-based work.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and remain effective in a fast-paced environment.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a team-oriented working style.
  • Strong professional English communication skills for day-to-day work and client interaction.

Additional Information

The role is contract-based and onsite. Flexible hours are available, and there is room for growth within the team. Candidates may be required to work event-driven schedules and travel beyond Auckland depending on assignments.
