Job description

Role Overview

The Banquet Manager is responsible for directing the banquet team, supporting event delivery on the floor, and ensuring service standards are met at every stage of the function. The position also covers financial control, administrative follow-up, and protection of hotel assets, while keeping communication clear among all stakeholders involved in the event’s success. The role includes identifying development needs and putting plans in place to achieve departmental objectives.

Banquet Operations

This role focuses on planning supplies, maintaining service readiness, and making sure banquet operations support the overall success of each event and guest satisfaction.

  • Forecast department supply requirements such as china, glassware, silver, buffet displays, and decorative props.
  • Follow all laws and regulations applicable to events.
  • Understand how banquet operations affect event outcomes and manage activities to maximize customer satisfaction.
  • Apply and uphold established standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain required sanitation levels across the department.
  • Oversee inventories and keep equipment in working condition.
  • Use banquet beverage records to manage liquor costs and maintain perpetual beverage inventory.
  • Arrange banquet service staffing based on forecasted demand and service standards while supporting profitability.
  • Help build long-term relationships with groups to encourage repeat business and growth.

Team Leadership

The position requires active leadership of banquet staff, including goal setting, task delegation, and direct involvement in event service.

  • Set departmental goals and assign work to improve team results.
  • Hold monthly meetings with the banquet team.
  • Expand knowledge of food and wine pairings, modern cuisine, and current event trends.
  • Serve as a point of coordination with kitchen staff.
  • Lead shifts and take an active role in event service.

Guest Service

The manager is expected to model strong guest handling practices, resolve issues effectively, and keep service quality improving over time.

  • Set a strong example in guest relations.
  • Engage with guests to gather feedback on food quality and service standards.
  • Address guest concerns and complaints promptly.
  • Enable employees to deliver high-quality customer service.
  • Ensure staff clearly understand expectations and operating boundaries.
  • Continuously work to improve service performance.
  • Keep guest satisfaction central in departmental discussions and improvement efforts.
  • Review comment cards and satisfaction results with staff.

Human Resources and Safety

The job also includes staff development, emergency preparedness, and participation in performance improvement activities.

  • Communicate and implement departmental and property emergency procedures, and ensure staff are trained in safety practices.
  • Observe employee service behaviors and provide individual feedback.
  • Track progress and lead regular staff discussions during each period.
  • Contribute to corrective action planning and execution.
  • Review quarterly Meeting Planner Survey results and help implement actions to address service gaps and improve satisfaction.
  • Attend and participate in relevant meetings.
