Role summary

The Student Attendance Specialist supports regular student attendance by tracking absences, identifying reasons for repeated or unexcused absences, working with families on solutions, issuing attendance-related warnings, and assisting with court-related attendance matters when needed. This position is with Indiana Digital Learning School (INDLS), a K12 partner school under Stride, Inc.

Work setup

This is a regular, full-time role based in Modoc, Indiana. The position requires independent work for roughly 40+ hours each week and maintaining a professional home office without distractions during the workday, generally 9-5 or 8-4 as scheduled by the school. The work location is in-office at 8707 W US Hwy 36, Modoc, IN 47358.

Key duties

  • Lead schoolwide attendance initiatives and absenteeism prevention efforts, with both a preventive family-education focus and an intervention focus for underlying attendance barriers.
  • Partner with teachers to monitor student compliance with attendance policies.
  • Reach out to targeted students and families through email, phone calls, and automated dialing notices.
  • Recommend families to the appropriate administrator for truancy intervention meetings when necessary.
  • Participate in truancy meetings with school leadership.
  • Make sure attendance, progress, and system login records meet state compliance expectations.
  • Ensure attendance withdrawals follow school policy and state requirements.
  • Prepare attendance and truancy reports for school, county, and state use as needed.
  • Work alongside the Student Support Team when referrals to external service agencies are needed.
  • Create individualized attendance and engagement plans with families and teachers.
  • Collaborate with the Student Support Administrator, Head of School, and local school board to improve attendance procedures.
  • Support families and student services staff in efforts that help reduce juvenile delinquency risk.
  • Design and deliver educational workshops on absenteeism for staff and families.
  • Assist staff with projects related to attendance and truancy.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 2 years of truancy-related experience, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • Ability to pass the required background check.
  • Working knowledge of state school attendance laws and other K–12 education regulations.
  • Understanding of state court procedures related to truancy.
  • Comfort working in an online learning environment.
  • Strong organization and time management abilities.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain a professional home-office setup during the workday.

Additional information

Residency is required in Modoc, Indiana. The role is paid at an hourly rate of $17. Employment is at-will under the laws of the state where the employee works.
