Job description
Role overview
PwC New Zealand is hiring an Associate-level team member to join its Private Business practice in Hamilton (Kirikiriroa) for an immediate start. This opportunity is aimed at someone early in their career, ideally a graduate or a professional with up to one year of experience.
The Private Business team advises a broad mix of clients, from family-run businesses to well-known larger organisations. The work spans financial advisory support designed to help businesses operate effectively, grow sustainably, and manage risk across local and international contexts.
What you will do
- Work in a varied, fast-moving environment alongside interesting businesses and their leadership teams.
- Partner closely with business owners to help them handle financial issues, make sound decisions, and move toward strategic objectives.
- Provide guidance on accounting and tax matters for a diverse client portfolio.
- Help clients spot tax-related risks and identify planning opportunities across the tax lifecycle.
- Support delivery of accounting and tax compliance work, including tax returns and statutory financial statements.
- Assist client finance teams with month-end close, budgeting, cash flow forecasting, financial modelling, board reporting, and process enhancement.
- Contribute to the planning and execution of multiple projects with accuracy and efficiency.
What you should bring
The role suits someone who is ambitious, comfortable with technology, and interested in advisory work. Strong written and verbal communication skills are important, along with an analytical approach, good problem-solving ability, and a sharp eye for detail.
Prior exposure to, or interest in, a CA environment or business advisory role will be helpful. A working understanding of tax and accounting compliance preparation, including tax returns and financial statements, is an advantage. Experience with Xero and Excel is also beneficial.
A relevant degree is expected, such as a Bachelor of Commerce or Business with a focus on Accounting, Finance, Economics, Taxation, Information Systems, or Computer Science; a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Economics; or a Bachelor of Engineering. Candidates who do not match every requirement are still encouraged to apply if they have the right potential and transferable skills.
Working at PwC New Zealand

- Wellbeing support including a $250 annual allowance, life and income protection, Sonder/EAP/Headspace support, 15 days of paid sick leave, and group-rate health insurance where eligible.
- Flexible working arrangements and a supportive coaching culture.
- Two paid recognition days each year during the annual summer shutdown, plus the option to buy up to two extra weeks of annual leave.
- Paid parental leave for all parents, flexible options, financial planning support, inclusive networks, and paid volunteering leave.
- A strong reputation for helping clients and communities solve important problems while supporting career growth.
