About Prime
Prime is driven by a shared purpose: helping accelerate solutions that improve outcomes for global healthcare challenges. The organisation brings together science, strategy, evidence, technology, and creativity to deliver work that partners can trust and that supports better care for patients worldwide. Its culture is shaped by four core principles: being brave, human, passionate, and exceptional.
The Role
Prime is looking for an Associate Medical Writer to work alongside senior scientific colleagues in producing high-quality medical communications across formats such as abstracts, posters, manuscripts, slide decks, and presentations. With mentoring and support, the role focuses on creating accurate, well-structured, scientifically sound content that aligns with client goals, internal standards, and compliance expectations.
This position also involves supporting project delivery, handling assigned tasks and deadlines, conducting research across therapy areas, incorporating feedback, and maintaining awareness of disease areas, competitors, and emerging data. The role requires careful time tracking against project budgets and offers strong early-career exposure to medical writing within a fast-moving agency environment.
Responsibilities
- Draft scientific and medical communications materials with guidance from senior team members.
- Help deliver projects in line with client objectives, timelines, and compliance requirements, escalating issues according to SOPs.
- Follow journal, congress, and client style preferences, and keep the wider team informed of any changes.
- Research relevant topics and turn findings into focused, on-message content.
- Review and apply internal and external feedback while preserving accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
- Adjust tone, format, and depth of content for different audiences when needed.
- Manage assigned work so it is completed on time and within allocated hours.
- Share relevant updates promptly with scientific and client services colleagues.
- Stay current on therapeutic areas, competitors, new products, and new indications relevant to assigned accounts.
- Research complex therapy areas and distil the most important information for the wider team.
- Carry out fact-checking and identify inconsistencies or compliance concerns.
- Escalate unclear points or items needing final approval to senior colleagues in line with SOPs.
- Track actual time against budgeted time and monitor scope throughout the project.
- Complete timesheets accurately and submit them on time each week to the line manager, client services lead, and finance team.
- Confirm budgeted hours and task scope before starting work and flag any mismatch early.
- Maintain working knowledge of required tools such as Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe.
- Follow industry self-regulation, compliance guidance, and client SOPs in day-to-day work.
- Build capability through feedback, collaboration, and ongoing learning.
- Contribute to team objectives and client satisfaction in a collaborative setting.
- Develop professional relationships within the team and, where appropriate, with external stakeholders.
Requirements
- A degree in life sciences, preferably supplemented by a science master’s degree or PhD.
- Clear, effective communication skills in both spoken and written English.
- Working knowledge of pharmaceutical industry practices and processes.
- Strong attention to detail and solid organisational ability.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a busy agency setting.
- Willingness to learn new disease areas and therapy spaces as needed.
- Proactive communication style with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and Outlook, plus Adobe.
Benefits
Prime offers a competitive compensation package and a range of employee benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, generous time off, pension, a 401(k) plan with employer match, wellbeing support, training, career growth opportunities, and hybrid/remote working options.
Additional Information
The role is based in Knutsford, England, United Kingdom, and is offered as a full-time remote position. The description highlights that the role suits someone at an early stage of a medical writing career who is curious, detail-oriented, and eager to build strong foundations in scientific storytelling, editorial best practice, and medical communications. The organisation also emphasises its guiding values of being brave, human, passionate, and exceptional.
