Job Purpose

The Shift In Charge for Steel and Project Cargo is accountable for managing shift-wise operations linked to the movement and handling of steel and project cargo at the port. The role focuses on ensuring every shift runs safely, efficiently and in line with compliance requirements while supporting operational goals and service standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all activities for the assigned shift and ensure steel and project cargo operations stay on track and within the planned schedule.
  • Plan and control the use of manpower, equipment and other resources needed to manage the shift effectively.
  • Enforce safety procedures and make sure all work follows applicable regulatory and operational standards.
  • Coordinate with clients during the shift to resolve urgent operational issues and support a positive service experience.
  • Oversee the movement of steel and project cargo, including loading, unloading and transport coordination, to keep logistics flowing efficiently.
  • Track performance indicators during the shift and identify practical improvements that raise productivity and efficiency.
  • Maintain awareness of digital tools and AI-driven developments that can strengthen business performance and competitiveness.

Stakeholders

Internal: Head of Section - Dry Cargo Operations, Head of Section - Logistics, Head of Section - Steel and Project Cargo Operations, Line Manager - Steel and Project Cargo, other department heads and direct reportees.

External: Prospective clients, government and regulatory bodies, trade groups and competitors.

Qualifications

The role requires an MBA, B.E. or B.Tech in any discipline.

Experience

Candidates should have 6 to 12 years of relevant experience in steel coil and cargo operations, including movement and stacking, loading and unloading.
