Job description
About the Company
Beast Industries is a diverse media and entertainment business created by Jimmy Donaldson, widely known as MrBeast. The company’s work extends well beyond its YouTube roots and includes digital media, philanthropy, consumer products, and new business ventures. Its mission is to entertain, inspire, and drive meaningful social impact through creative, innovative, and memorable experiences.
Role Summary
Beast Industries is developing products and services for consumers and creators centered on community participation, memberships, interactive experiences, creator tools, and commercial partnerships. As the business grows internationally, the legal function is essential to supporting expansion while controlling regulatory, consumer, privacy, and commercial exposure.
The Associate General Counsel, Product & Commercial will be a key legal advisor for the Beast Membership program and the Global Creator Platform. This position supports product initiatives, partnerships, subscriptions, promotions, creator ecosystems, live experiences, and international growth.
What the Role Covers
This is a hands-on in-house legal role focused on consumer products, creator platform initiatives, and commercial deals. The attorney will work closely with Product, Engineering, Content, Marketing, Partnerships, and Finance to help launch and scale offerings while keeping legal and regulatory protections in place.
The role includes advising on product design, subscription structures, promotions, privacy and online safety obligations, commercial contracts, creator ecosystem growth, and global expansion efforts. It also involves guidance on sensitive matters such as privacy compliance, winner verification, age checks, and global regulatory demands.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary in-house legal lead for the Beast Membership program, the Global Creator Platform, and strategic partnerships.
- Review proposed apps, products, features, and business models to spot and reduce legal risk across multiple countries.
- Advise teams on consumer protection, privacy, data security, competition law, intellectual property, and new regulatory developments.
- Shape subscription structures such as free trials, referral programs, membership perks, and related customer disclosures.
- Provide legal support for challenges, prize mechanics, and production-related legal issues.
- Create and oversee the legal framework for sweepstakes, contests, and promotions, including official rules, eligibility standards, and prize delivery.
- Lead legal processes for winner checks, age verification, and know-your-customer requirements tied to high-value prizes.
- Advise on privacy matters, including COPPA-related obligations and compliant product experiences for users.
- Support rewards programs and commerce-related ecosystems.
- Guide content licensing, creator programming, and distribution strategy decisions.
- Help launch products globally through localized terms, pricing approaches, and country-specific legal requirements.
- Draft, negotiate, and manage a wide range of commercial contracts, including technology, gaming, sponsorship, event, marketing, agency, and development agreements.
- Support live activations, events, venue arrangements, and large-scale productions.
- Coordinate with outside counsel on specialized regulatory, privacy, and compliance issues.
- Deliver practical, business-minded legal advice that helps teams move quickly while managing risk.
Requirements
- J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
- Active California Bar membership in good standing, or eligibility to register as in-house counsel under California Rule of Court 9.46.
- At least 8–10 years of relevant legal experience after law school; in-house experience with consumer internet products is a plus.
- Background advising on technology, consumer products, privacy, or similar legal areas.
- Proven ability to draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements, including partnerships, licensing, sponsorship, technology, and services contracts.
- Working knowledge of consumer protection and promotions law, including sweepstakes, contests, subscriptions, and auto-renewal rules.
- Strong understanding of privacy and children’s privacy laws such as COPPA, CCPA/CPRA, the California Age-Appropriate Design Code, GDPR, or comparable frameworks.
- Experience helping shape or execute regulatory response strategies.
- Strong judgment and the ability to give practical legal guidance calibrated to business risk.
- Experience with consumer subscription, gaming, streaming, social, or creator-led products.
- Experience with advertising-supported or subscription-supported business models.
- Exposure to prize payout compliance, age verification, or know-your-customer workflows.
- Experience with live events, production matters, venue agreements, or talent-related issues.
- Experience supporting global launches and compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
- Ability to work independently and manage external counsel effectively.
Compensation and Benefits
The role offers a target total compensation range of $300,000 to $396,000, which includes a fixed annual salary of $250,000 to $330,000, a discretionary annual cash bonus, an employee equity grant, and comprehensive benefits.
- Competitive pay
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage through Blue Cross Blue Shield, plus company-paid life insurance
- Company contributions to Health Savings Accounts (HSA)
- 401(k) plan with Safe Harbor matching contributions
- Flexible vacation policy and paid company holidays
- Company-issued technology package
- Relocation support where applicable, including travel and company-provided housing for the first 90 days
