Job description

About the Role

NHS Fife Psychology is a large, friendly, and supportive department serving all of Fife across major clinical specialties, known for innovation and staff development. We are seeking one full-time Assistant Psychologist to join the Psychological Interventions in Psychosis (PIP) Team. The PIP team is a specialized psychology service comprising 2.8 WTE qualified clinical psychologists, dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing psychosis and related psychological therapy needs. Referrals are primarily received from NHS Fife CMHTs, outpatient psychiatry, inpatient mental health ward teams, and the community rehabilitation team. While working closely with referral partners, the PIP team operates independently of CMHTs and acute inpatient wards. The team utilizes various psychological therapy approaches, including CBTp, CFTp, BFT, ACT, and mindfulness-based interventions.

The PIP team also dedicates resources to the Mental Health Rehabilitation service, which assists individuals with complex psychosis presentations. This service includes a 10-bedded inpatient rehabilitation ward and a community rehabilitation team. The PIP team has one psychologist embedded within the Mental Health Rehabilitation ward MDT and provides additional support to the community rehabilitation team.

Key Responsibilities

The primary function of this role is to provide support to the clinical psychologists within the PIP team. This involves assisting with psychological assessments and delivering low-intensity interventions (both group and individual) under supervision. The role also includes participating in service audits, aiding with training initiatives, and conducting file reviews to support psychological formulations and forensic risk assessments. The work will span both community settings and the inpatient rehabilitation ward.

Furthermore, you will collaborate closely with other members of the Mental Health Rehabilitation multidisciplinary teams and community support providers, such as social care teams, to ensure the delivery of psychologically informed care.

Additional Information

As of April 1, 2026, the standard full-time working week for Agenda for Change will be reduced from 37 to 36 hours, with part-time hours adjusted proportionally. The hourly rate will increase to ensure no impact on pay.
