Role overview
This position is for an Assistant Manager in Civil & Structural Design, focused on engineering and design work for industrial projects. The job calls for handling planning, analysis, design, and review of civil and structural systems while ensuring solutions are safe, economical, buildable, and aligned with technical requirements. The role also includes coordination across disciplines, technical guidance, and support during execution.
What you will do
- Take ownership of civil and structural design tasks for assigned jobs, starting from concept development through detailed engineering.
- Carry out structural analysis and design for RCC and steel works such as foundations, buildings, sheds, equipment supports, and underground structures.
- Develop and check design calculations, drawings, specifications, BOQs, and other technical deliverables.
- Verify that all design outputs comply with relevant Indian and international standards, including IS, ACI, ASTM, and Eurocodes wherever applicable.
- Work closely with architectural, mechanical, piping, electrical, and process teams to ensure coordinated design delivery.
- Examine and approve drawings and calculations prepared by junior engineers and outside consultants.
- Provide construction-stage support by addressing site queries, revising designs when needed, and evaluating value engineering proposals.
- Participate in design reviews, HAZID studies, and constructability checks.
- Track design timelines and deliverables while maintaining quality and safety expectations.
- Engage with clients, contractors, and third-party consultants on technical topics.
- Help drive design standardization, better practices, and ongoing process improvement.
- Assist with tendering and estimation work, including review of specifications and preliminary design inputs.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is compulsory.
- A master’s degree in Structural Engineering is preferred.
- 5 to 7 years of experience in civil and structural design.
- Prior exposure to industrial and oil & gas projects is desirable.
- Experience across both design office activities and site support is an added advantage.
- Capability in structural analysis and design software such as STAAD or equivalent tools.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD; familiarity with REVIT or Tekla is beneficial.
- Good understanding of soil-structure interaction and foundation design.
- Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and current industry practices.
- Ability to read geotechnical reports and apply them appropriately in design.
- Understanding of QA/QC procedures and design documentation control.
- Strong analytical ability, communication, coordination, and mentoring skills.
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple priorities, and maintain a quality-focused, client-oriented approach.
