About the Role

The Assistant Buyer serves as a crucial link between the sales floor and customers, ensuring optimal inventory levels and timely availability. This position collaborates closely with Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Finance, and Accounting departments, as well as store operations teams. The role focuses on applying cost accounting principles to understand product costs, analyze margins, and enhance business profitability. Reporting to the Retail Purchasing Manager, the Assistant Buyer acts as a key liaison for Accounting, Operations, and Retail teams.

Responsibilities

• Execute merchandising strategies for core product assortments tailored to specific markets and stores.
• Implement merchandising plans based on a tiered pricing structure (Good, Better, Best).
• Monitor inventory levels at the SKU level to ensure alignment with sales targets.
• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with supply partners.
• Negotiate favorable terms and conditions with suppliers and vendors.
• Liaise with retail locations regarding current and new products and inventory requirements.
• Set retail pricing, overseeing the execution of sales, markups, and markdowns.
• Support the development and execution of product launches and promotional campaigns to drive revenue and profit.
• Collaborate with the Purchasing Manager on analyzing SKU-level pricing and profitability.
• Ensure strict adherence to all applicable laws and regulations in every operating location.

Requirements

• An Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• A minimum of 1 year of industry experience is desirable.
• At least 2 years of experience in merchandising and buying, preferably within the cannabis sector.
• Knowledge of cannabis products is a plus.
• Prior supervisory experience is required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other analytical software systems.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
• Experience in direct customer interaction, including fulfilling requests and resolving issues.
• Strong professional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively across various organizational levels.
• Familiarity with office management systems and procedures.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to influence positively.
• Detail-oriented with a focus on process improvement.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage high-stress situations, and adapt to changing needs.
