Role overview
This position is suited to a careful, proactive Assistant Accountant who can support the finance function and contribute to the accuracy, timeliness, and reliability of financial reporting. You will work with the wider finance team to maintain strong financial records and help keep essential accounting processes running smoothly.
The role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with figures, values accuracy, and wants to grow in a team-based, fast-moving environment.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in preparing monthly and annual financial reports to a high standard.
- Make sure the accounting support work behind financial and management reporting is completed accurately and within deadlines, including journals and general ledger review.
- Support cash flow forecasting by collecting, organising, and maintaining relevant financial information alongside the Financial Accountant.
- Help maintain tax compliance by preparing and lodging GST and FBT returns correctly and on time.
- Provide administrative and data support for budgeting from both a financial and management reporting angle.
- Carry out balance sheet reconciliations against agreed standards and escalate any differences to protect the quality of financial data.
Requirements
- 2 to 3 years of relevant experience with a strong grasp of financial and management accounting, including journals, general ledger work, and reconciliations.
- Capability to support both monthly and yearly reporting cycles.
- Understanding of tax compliance requirements, particularly GST and FBT.
- Exposure to cash flow forecasting and handling financial data.
- Experience with balance sheet reconciliations and maintaining data accuracy.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to analyse and interpret financial information to assist decision-making.
- Good time management and the ability to meet reporting deadlines.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well with stakeholders.
- A mindset focused on identifying and improving processes.
