Job description

Job Overview

This role is part of Aditya Birla Capital Limited’s Financial Services business in Rajkot, Gujarat. The Area Head for Gold Loans will own area-level execution, translating regional strategy into practical plans that support growth, profitability, portfolio health, operational control, and regulatory adherence. The position is expected to help deliver AUM expansion, disbursement growth, P&L outcomes, branch network expansion, and strong compliance standards by guiding and aligning multiple branch teams.

Business Context

Aditya Birla Capital Limited is a Systematically Important Non-Deposit taking NBFC registered with the RBI and recognized as one of India’s leading diversified private NBFCs. It serves a wide customer base across retail, HNI, MSME, mid and large corporates, and offers a broad range of secured and unsecured lending solutions, along with wealth management services. The organization has a pan-India presence and a large lending book, and it is rated AAA by India Ratings, ICRA, and CARE.

Role Purpose

The purpose of this position is to drive the gold loan business across the assigned area with balanced focus on scale, profitability, portfolio quality, and operational discipline. The incumbent will lead execution of business initiatives, manage teams, monitor risk and compliance, and ensure the area meets its commercial and governance goals.

Scope and Key Dimensions

This is a new business environment, so the incumbent will need to create and strengthen relationships with internal support functions as well as regional stakeholders. The role includes overseeing multiple branch heads and distributed branch teams, setting business plans, manpower structures, and productivity benchmarks in line with the national strategy. The incumbent will also be accountable for regulatory compliance and ongoing portfolio monitoring.

Major Challenges

  • Growing AUM quickly while protecting asset quality, collateral cover, and LTV discipline in the face of gold price movements.
  • Maintaining strict compliance with RBO and regulatory requirements across a widespread branch footprint without slowing business momentum.
  • Controlling fraud risks, jewelry substitution, internal collusion, and security lapses while the business scales.
  • Turning around low-performing branches and keeping fixed costs efficient in a high-volume, low-ticket lending model.
  • Ensuring customers receive fast, clear, and respectful service in a business where the asset and transaction are highly sensitive.

Key Result Areas

  • Drive sustainable business expansion through year-over-year and quarter-over-quarter AUM growth, disbursement achievement against plan, customer base growth, market share improvement, healthy ticket sizes, and a balanced new-versus-renewal mix.
  • Deliver profitable growth by managing net interest margin, portfolio yield, cost-to-income ratio, operating profit, return metrics, and incremental profit contribution from each branch.
  • Protect portfolio quality through strong GNPA and NNPA control, SMA monitoring, LTV adherence, lower auction losses, fraud prevention, and effective recovery after delinquency.
  • Strengthen branch productivity by opening branches as planned, reducing break-even time, improving AUM and disbursement productivity per branch and per RM, and lifting weaker branches.
  • Improve sales effectiveness and customer acquisition by increasing disbursement productivity, reducing acquisition cost, improving lead-to-disbursement conversion, driving repeat business, and supporting cross-sell and upsell activity.
  • Ensure compliance and audit readiness through minimal RBI and internal audit observations, low policy deviation, accurate documentation, consistent gold purity testing, and zero-tolerance breach prevention.
  • Build team capability by managing attrition, filling critical roles quickly, developing successors for key positions, expanding training coverage, and improving productivity after training.

Stakeholder Relationships

The role requires regular interaction with internal teams such as IT, marketing, risk, policy, audit, compliance, and HR for technology support, campaigns, business inputs, and people/process needs. Externally, the incumbent will engage with customers for feedback and escalation handling, channel partners and investment banks for product promotion and market insights, and vendors for product ideas, negotiations, and support related to value propositions, marketing, and training.

Reporting Structure

The document indicates that the following roles may report into the Regional Head - Gold Loan: Branch Manager - Gold Loan, and in the absence of the Branch Manager, Manager Gold Valuation, Gold Loan Officer, and Customer Service Executive.
