Job description

Company Overview

Abmodas Productions is a Zimbabwe-based production company focused on bringing authentic African narratives to film and television audiences. With more than ten years in the creative sector, the studio has contributed to notable local productions such as City of Dreams (2011) and Varsity: Mirror of Personality (2012). The company blends global production quality with strong local understanding to develop content that connects with viewers in Africa and beyond. It also works with a wide network of collaborators who value real African settings, talent, and storytelling perspectives. This position offers the chance to work in a creative setting that prizes originality, cultural truth, and strong visual storytelling.

Role Overview

This is a full-time, on-site Animator position based in Harare. The selected candidate will produce polished 2D and/or 3D animation for film, television, and digital media projects. The work will focus on bringing characters, environments, and visual effects together in a way that strengthens the story and matches the overall creative direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build animation sequences for film, television, and online content.
  • Create storyboards and animatics to turn scripts into clear visual plans.
  • Develop motion graphics where required for different production needs.
  • Adjust and improve animation work based on review comments and creative direction.
  • Work closely with directors, writers, editors, and other team members throughout production.
  • Handle motion capture data when needed and fit it into the animation workflow.
  • Maintain smooth visual flow and continuity across scenes.
  • Take part in production discussions and help track project schedules.
  • Keep animation files, assets, and project materials well organized during the full production process.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have strong animation ability, including character animation and a solid grasp of core animation principles. Experience in storyboarding and visual storytelling is important, as is the ability to convert scripts into simple and effective visual sequences. Practical knowledge of motion graphics for film, television, and digital content is also expected. Familiarity with motion capture processes and using captured data in animation work will be considered an advantage.

The role also requires good communication skills for working with directors, producers, and cross-functional teams. Candidates should be comfortable using standard animation and design tools such as Adobe After Effects, Adobe Animate, Toon Boom, Blender, Maya, or similar software. Strong attention to detail, good time management, and the ability to deliver work to deadlines in a busy production setting are essential. A qualification in Animation, Film, Media, Graphic Design, or a related discipline is preferred, though relevant hands-on experience may also be accepted. A portfolio or showreel that demonstrates animation quality, storytelling ability, and visual design skills is required.
