In this position, you will turn audio and video recordings into accurate written transcripts while following client-specific style rules, formatting standards, and conventions. The work is project-based and is based in Glendale, CA at the office rather than remotely.

The role offers a flexible schedule with work ranging from 16 hours per week to a maximum of 40 hours per week. The hourly pay is $18.00.

What you will do

  • Convert spoken audio into written text with a high level of accuracy, following the project’s formatting, punctuation, and grammar rules.
  • Deliver transcription work that aligns with each client’s written-domain conventions and quality expectations.
  • Stay current on detailed client policies, including “clean room” requirements and other written guidelines.
  • Use training documents and reference materials to keep work compliant and consistent.
  • Check transcripts carefully for errors, omissions, and completeness before submission.
  • Escalate technical problems or concerns through the proper channels without delay.
  • Look for ways to improve workflow, productivity, and quality standards.
  • Manage time well so deadlines are met and output remains consistent.
  • Treat confidential material carefully and follow all privacy and security rules.
  • Support additional projects or duties as assigned.

What you need to bring

  • Strong listening ability and very good command of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Comfort working with client-specific style guides and adapting quickly to new conventions.
  • Solid research skills for verifying spellings of names, places, and products.
  • Ability to work across Mac and PC systems, as well as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Clear communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Dependable follow-through on deadlines and quality expectations.
  • Professional handling of sensitive information and strict confidentiality.
  • Typing speed of 40 WPM or more in American English is preferred.

Eligibility and requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; additional study in linguistics, transcription, or a related area is a plus.
  • You must be authorized to work in the United States, as sponsorship is not provided.
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years old.
  • Reliable transportation is needed for commuting to the on-site facility when required.
  • You must be fluent in reading, writing, understanding, and typing American English (en_us).
  • You should be able to understand a wide range of accents and dialects and pass a language assessment.

Physical demands

  • Ability to move around an office or similar work setting, including standing and walking for long periods.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
  • Ability to bend, reach, and carry out tasks that require physical flexibility in a standard office environment.
  • Manual dexterity to use a keyboard and mouse efficiently.
  • Ability to wear headphones for long stretches while listening to audio.
  • Capacity to handle repetitive typing work with sustained focus.
