Role overview
The Government of Yukon’s Department of Highways and Public Works is hiring for two casual labourer roles with a three-month term, with the possibility of additional full-time casual assignments. These positions support spring and summer maintenance activities at Whitehorse Airport and nearby community aerodromes.
The work focuses on running light maintenance equipment with attachments, carrying out airside and groundside upkeep, and completing general labour tasks to the required standard.

Key duties
- Operate light maintenance machinery and equipment fitted with attachments.
- Support airside and groundside maintenance work at airport and aerodrome sites.
- Carry out general labour duties as assigned.
Essential experience
Applicants should be able to show, through their resume, that they have experience in the following areas:
- Grounds maintenance and operation of related equipment such as tractors, 1-ton trucks, lawnmowers, and small loaders.
- Use of brushing tools and equipment, including chainsaws and brush saws.
- Operation of small motorized equipment and a range of hand tools.
- Minor repair work on items such as fences, signs, and other small structures.

Employment conditions
This role requires a valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s licence, Transport Canada Transportation Security Clearance within 3 months, a Restricted Radio Operator’s Licence, and an Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit within 1 month.
Work conditions
The position involves travel, work in poor weather, mandatory personal protective equipment, shift work, and periods away from headquarters for extended stretches.
