Job description
About the Role
UGL is hiring an Aircraft Refueller to join its Defence aviation operations at RAAF Townsville in Queensland. This is a strong career opportunity for both seasoned refuelling professionals and people looking to step into the aviation fuel sector. The position sits within a long-running major operations and maintenance contract that continues to expand.
The role offers the chance to contribute to work that supports Australia’s Defence capability, while being part of a team known for teamwork, standards, and professionalism. Prior experience in Defence or the fuel industry can help, but UGL provides training and development for people entering the field.
Training is designed to build the skills needed to work safely and may include both local on-site and off-site learning, as well as periodic travel to specialist interstate facilities during the course of employment.
Key Duties
- Assist in supporting the Defence fuel network across Australia to maintain reliable and efficient operations.
- Perform pre-use checks on refuelling vehicles, associated equipment, and paperwork to confirm everything is ready for service.
- Carry out daily fuel quality testing in accordance with safe work procedures to verify the fuel is clear of water and contaminants.
- Approach and refuel Australian and overseas military aircraft safely, including setting exclusion zones, using bonding equipment, and following aviation safety rules.
- Complete all after-refuelling records, such as meter readings and customer confirmation, and promptly escalate hazards or incidents.
What We’re Looking For
UGL is seeking people who are proactive, dependable, and able to work well with others. A strong commitment to safety is essential, along with the ability to contribute positively to a diverse team supporting Defence outcomes.
- Safety-focused mindset and consistent attention to safe work practices.
- Current HC driver licence and Dangerous Goods Handling Licence are required.
- Experience in fuel services or the Defence sector will be viewed favourably.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a varied team environment.
- Current security clearance, or the capacity to obtain one.
What’s On Offer
- Full-time employment on a long-term Defence contract.
- Competitive hourly pay with company benefits aligned to market standards.
- Stable local work with the option to remain close to home long term.
- Opportunity to work alongside UGL and Defence personnel in a supportive crew.
- A role that contributes to Australia’s national security and broader Defence mission.
