About the Role
DHL Global Forwarding, Freight is seeking an AFR Operations Specialist for its Jeddah, Saudi Arabia operations. This role sits within an international logistics business that provides air, ocean, and road freight solutions, including standard transport and highly tailored end-to-end services across many industries.
The position is focused on managing air freight operations plans and procedures so that goods and information move smoothly through the customer’s global supply chain. You will work closely with customers, handle shipments in line with agreed expectations, and support the business strategy, policies, and corporate standards.
This is a specialist-level role that requires deep knowledge gained through education and practical experience. You will be expected to work independently, handle difficult and sometimes complex challenges, and manage projects or processes with limited supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the customer’s primary contact for shipment updates, incidents, complaints, ad hoc pricing questions, and claims support.
- Make sure costs and revenues are correctly recorded against the customer profile, and take ownership of both straightforward and complex issues until they are resolved.
- Handle shipment-level tasks such as booking intake, documentation needs, and all associated local and international transport arrangements.
- Monitor shipments to ensure delivery aligns with the agreed customer service commitment.
- Identify, document, analyze, and improve exceptions and operational irregularities.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy and completeness in shipment data.
- Apply the required regulatory compliance steps related to shipment commodities and locations.
- Assign or route shipments to the appropriate consol in a way that supports customer commitments and commercial performance.
- Spot critical shipments and new business that require extra attention or hypercare support.
- Respond to queries, prepare information for customer visits, and join customer meetings on operational matters.
- Complete daily tasks while meeting productivity and resource management expectations.
- Prepare invoices, debit notes, credit notes, and supporting documents to ensure timely and accurate customer billing.
- Investigate and assist with invoice disputes.
- Work on recurring issues and recommend process improvements that increase efficiency and effectiveness.
- Address supplier performance concerns and propose corrective actions to improve results.
- Provide guidance, advice, or training to less experienced team members when needed.
- Collaborate with specialist departments and third parties such as external service providers.
- Influence others to adopt new ideas, practices, and approaches where required.
- Build trusted cross-functional relationships with DHL managers and other stakeholders.
- Understand customer and stakeholder priorities and advise direct reports, customers, and other stakeholders accordingly.
- Offer technical support to line managers and employees.
- As an individual contributor, you may oversee up to two employees, lead lower-level professionals, or manage selected processes and programs.
- Coach and review the work of junior professionals.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience/qualification.
- More than 4 years of relevant experience.
- Strong background in routing and shipment handling.
- Knowledge of shipping and carrier management.
- Experience with third-party logistics operations.
- Exposure to airline-related freight operations.
- Understanding of ground transportation workflows.
- Familiarity with cold chain logistics.
- Knowledge of import and export processes.
- Ability to work effectively with stakeholders across functions and external partners.
